Job Description - Assistant Director of Athletic Performance (2603128)

Assistant Director of Athletic Performance

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full time experience in the area of Athletic Performance and/or Strength and Conditioning. Current certification of either C.S.C.S. (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) or S.C.C.C. (Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Previous experience with a Division I Athletic Program.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Assistant Director of Athletic Performance will work with specific sports as assigned by the Assistant AD for Athletic Performance to develop the physical qualities necessary to compete at the Division I level. Additional responsibilities will include designing a program customized to each sport’s specific needs, maintenance of varsity weight training facility, coordination and cooperation with athletic training staff and general administrative duties as assigned by AD for Athletic Performance.

Student-Athlete Performance Teaching, Education & Development:

  • The primary responsibility of the Assistant Director is to instruct the student-athletes on Athletic Performance. The Assistant Director of Athletic Performance will work with the assigned team on physical preparation which include, but is not limited to, supervising programs focusing on strength training, cardiovascular fitness, speed & agility training, plyometrics, flexibility/mobility, safety, physical health and wellness, and teamwork. The Assistant Director will assist the Assistant AD for Athletic Performance in creating a positive atmosphere in the weight training facility and a culture of dedication and commitment to the training program. The position will develop a customized year-round Athletic Performance program for assigned sports and seek guidance, when necessary, from the Assistant AD. This includes creating and tailoring each program to the gender, sport specific needs and physical abilities of the student-athletes.
  • The Assistant Director will be responsible for implementing the evaluation tool for all training and rehabilitation sessions which will gauge the progress of all student-athletes in the Athletic Performance program. This may involve providing written logs and reports to the Head Coach, Assistant AD and/or Athletic Trainers.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant Director will be responsible for the organization and coordination of a wide variety of administrative tasks as assigned by the Assistant AD, which include, but not limited to, team scheduling, budget preparation & administration, facility usage, public relations, fundraising, community service and other daily operations for the program. The Assistant Director is required to work independently with various support services in the Department of Athletics and campus constituents (i.e. Athletic Training, Business Office, & Dining Services, etc.) in carrying out these tasks.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • The Assistant Director is responsible for the upkeep of the equipment in the Athletic weight facilities during and following training sessions at which he/she is the supervisor. They will make recommendations to the Assistant AD concerning needs in this area.

Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
