Job description


North America Central is seeking an experienced Technician-In-Charge (TIC) to oversee the daily operations of our fleet maintenance facility.

Earn up to $37.00 per hour (based on experience and certifications)

Minimum 3+ years of diesel or fleet maintenance experience


This role is responsible for supervising maintenance staff, managing preventative maintenance and repair schedules, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and maintaining the reliability of our school bus fleet.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise daily maintenance shop operations and personnel
  • Schedule and oversee preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues on diesel-powered vehicles
  • Review repair orders for accuracy, quality, and efficiency
  • Monitor team performance, provide coaching, and support employee development
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards
  • Coordinate vehicle availability with dispatch and operations teams
  • Assist with budgeting and provide maintenance updates to leadership
  • Order parts, fuel, and supplies; coordinate third-party repair services
  • Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs as needed
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation

QualificationsRequired
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3+ years of diesel or fleet maintenance experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work flexible and early morning hours
  • Commitment to safety and a professional work environment
Preferred
  • Technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics or related field
  • ASE, Brake Certification, Preventative Maintenance certifications, or similar
  • Previous supervisory or maintenance management experience
  • Experience with school buses or commercial fleet operations

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fleet maintenance software (e.g., Manager+ or similar)
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping abilities
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and technologies

License Requirements
  • CDL Class B with Passenger endorsement (or ability to obtain within 60 days)

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs regularly
  • Ability to push/pull up to 120 lbs in emergency situations
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and working under vehicles
  • Ability to work in shop, yard, office, and outdoor environments
  • Must pass DOT physical, dexterity test, and drug screening
