Job Summary:

The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in leading, developing, and sustaining a competitive athletic program at Sacred Hearts Academy. This role helps foster a positive, inclusive, and energetic environment where studentโ€‘athletes can grow their skills, develop teamwork, and achieve both individual and team success.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associateโ€™s degree in physical education, sports management, or related field.
  • One (1) year experience coaching youth or school sports (i.e. community leagues, club teams, or intramural programs). โ€“ OR
  • High School Diploma
  • Two years of experience coaching youth or school sports (i.e. community leagues, club teams, or intramural programs).
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Substantial knowledge of the game as demonstrated through the development of comprehensive practice plans, offensive and defensive schemes, implementation of off-season expectations for student athletics, and the implementation of effective and contemporary teaching/coaching practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with athletics, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches, players, and administrators.
  • Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary.
    • Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment policy.
    • Able to work all required shifts and possible extended hours.
    • Must reside on Oahu.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in physical education.
  • 3 years of coaching experience.
  • Strong knowledge of content area curriculum and instructional methodologies.

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, in multi-aged environments.
  • Experience to demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; strong organization skills; handling multiple tasks and projects, and good judgement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others.
  • Demonstrated ability to protect and maintain confidential information.
  • Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Athletic Program Support (70%)
    • Assist the head coach in planning and supervising games and practices.
    • Teach young athletes the fundamentals of the designated sport.
    • Assist in developing and implementing practice plans that foster skill development, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
    • Supervise and ensure the safety of student-athletes during practices, games, and team activities.
    • Scout opponents and assist in game planning.
    • Provide instruction using video analysis, as necessary.
    • Assist with field preparation and maintenance.

2. Player Development (15%)

    • Promote values of responsibility, commitment, and academic excellence.
    • Monitor and evaluate team and individual player performance.
    • Adapt coaching techniques to accommodate individual differences and skill levels.

3. Performs other related duties as assigned (10%)

    • Serves as community relations liaison for company.
    • Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
    • Assist with seasonal peaks.
