Job description

Surgical Recovery Technician (Part-time, Nights)

Location: Wichita, KS

Compensation: $23 per hour, increasing to $25 per hour upon training completion + case stipends

Hours/Schedule:  6:00 PM – 6:00 AM | On-Call | Thursday & Friday Nights + one rotating 12- hour shift every third Tuesday


Step into a uniquely meaningful role as a Surgical Recovery Technician, where your dedication to afterlife care and hands-on skill directly contributes to someone's ability to receive a cornea transplant and regain their sight.

What You'll Do

  • Respond to cases with urgency, traveling an average of 90 minutes to hospitals, morgues, or funeral homes.
  • Review donor medical and health information and conduct full-body inspections on deceased donors to ensure compliance with EBAA and FDA standards.
  • Perform surgical recovery of corneal tissue for transplant and medical research.
  • Communicate clearly with team members, leadership and external partners.
  • Once fully trained, support and assist onboarding and training needs.

How You'll Be Challenged

  • Work includes frequent night travel and shifts extending into early morning hours, occasionally past 6:00 AM.
  • Cases involve donors with a wide range of backgrounds, which can be emotionally challenging.
  • Donation services depend on continuous 24/7 coverage, including weekends and holidays.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has an interest and passion for afterlife or palliative care.
  • Thrives working independently and is comfortable performing hands-on procedures solo.
  • Experience in healthcare, mortuary science, or criminal investigation is a plus.
  • On-call or overnight work experience is helpful - be sure to highlight it!
