What Is the Opportunity?

Assistant Vice President, Data & Analytics Architecture — Enterprise Data Products & Enablement Travelers | Enterprise Data, Digital and Analytics (EDDA)

Travelers is one of the nation's premier property casualty insurers and a proud member of the Dow Jones Industrial Average — and our newly formed Enterprise Data, Digital and Analytics (EDDA) business unit represents a bold, strategic investment in how we harness data as a cornerstone of Travelers’ future.

The Assistant Vice President of Architecture will report directly to the Chief Architect and help shape the long‑term strategy for this area. This is a rare opportunity — to meet the scale and ambition of a Dow 30 insurer that is serious about data. You will lead a team of architects aligned to our Enterprise Data Products and Data Enablement Value Streams, bringing at least a decade of architecture experience — ideally grounded in financial services or insurance — along with a proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire high‑performing technical teams.

Your scope is broad and consequential. On the Enterprise Data Products side, you will own technical strategy and execution enablement across our Master Data Management platforms and Geospatial capabilities, while architecting enterprise data products that directly serve our Enterprise Distribution and Enterprise Underwriting organizations. You will also spearhead the architecture for our Enterprise Generative Business Intelligence platform, bringing unprecedented insights from Travelers 100+ years of industry experience.

On the Data Enablement side, you will set the architectural direction for the foundational capabilities that make enterprise data trustworthy, discoverable, and usable at scale — including Data Platform Standards, Data Management and Governance practices, enterprise data catalog strategy, lineage and metadata approach, and Data Quality tooling and pipelines. You will have architecture responsibility over our third‑party data management space and the overall data platforms architecture that underpins both value streams. You will guide your team's work on modern cloud‑based data platforms across leading cloud providers, and you will champion the integration of AI and architecture for innovative enterprise solutions that make Travelers’ data more explorable, accessible, and analytically powerful at enterprise scale. As much as you are a strategist, you are also a hands‑on solution architect who ensures vision translates into sound, secure, and scalable delivery.

This position is based at one of Travelers' primary hubs — Hartford, CT, St. Paul, MN, or Hunt Valley, MD — with hybrid and fully in‑office arrangements available, giving you flexibility while keeping you close to the teams and stakeholders you will influence most.

What Will You Do?

  • Shape organizational relationships and inspire buy‑in.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Technical Expertise & Education: Bachelor’s in technology related field or equivalent, with 10+ years of architecture experience.
  • Advanced level architecture and recent hands‑on strong engineering experience with modern technologies.
  • Successful creation and execution of complex, large‑scale technology strategies and initiatives.
  • Leadership & Influence: Extensive executive leadership experience with a proven ability to shape and influence enterprise‑wide technology strategy and business decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of leading the development of strategic technology direction and architecture vision for their area of responsibility, as well as managing and mentoring technology architects and engineers to deliver impactful results. They should demonstrate the ability to align multi‑team goals and architectural strategies with the organization’s mission and long‑term objectives, while effectively balancing strategic planning with day‑to‑day operational needs. This individual will be a visible, trusted executive who models organizational values, builds enterprise credibility, and inspires teams to deliver transformative business and technology outcomes.
  • Strategic & Business Acumen: Extensive experience working an agile operational model.
