Job Title:  Graduate Assistant for Athletic Communications  

Department: Athletics 

Reports to: Director of Athletic Communications, Associate Director of Athletics & Recreation, and the Associate Vice President for Athletics & Recreation 

Effective Date: 8/1/26

Job Description: 

The graduate assistant for Athletic Communications serves at the direction of the Director of Athletic Communications and the department’s Associate Vice President of Athletics and Recreation and Associate Athletic Director.  The graduate assistant will be responsible for athletically produced content across all media platforms as well as sport specific statistical data. The qualified applicant will assist with all aspects of game day operations and communications/marketing efforts. These include, but are not limited to, stats keeping, written and digital content, social media, website management, game day operations, video productions and promotional efforts for all 23 of Manhattanville University’s varsity athletic programs.  

Responsibilities for the Graduate Assistant for Athletic Communications 

Specific Responsibilities:  

Include, but are not limited to: 

  • Game Day Operations: Assist the Director of Athletic Communications in the necessary tasks of Manhattanville Valiant athletics game operations, including, but not limited to, serving as official statistician for NCAA contests, video streaming, broadcasting, social media, scoreboard operations and direct supervisor of staff of student-workers. Potential opportunity to serve as primary contact for assigned sports depending on department needs. 
  • Writing & Editing: Write, edit and distribute press releases, game recaps, student-athlete features, department news and other related content for GoValiants.com and the Manhattanville Valiants athletic social media channels. A working knowledge of AP writing style is required. 
  • Graphic Design & Video Production: Create and distribute graphics and video content for digital and print materials via the Adobe Creative Suite. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Premiere or other similar programs is required. 
  • Social Media Management: Assist the Director of Athletic Communications and head coaches in the oversight of respective teams’ social media channels on Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, Threads and YouTube.  
  • Website Management: Aid in the maintenance and upkeep of GoValiants.com with news releases, roster information, schedule updates and statistics management.  
  • Department Contributor: Demonstrate the ability to work in a diverse work environment and to establish and maintain effective work relationships with school administrators, parents, students, and alums. Capacity to work both independently as well as within a team environment, with the ability to effectively communicate with student-athletes, coaches, athletic and college administration. Aid in the planning and promotion of major athletic and university-wide events.  

Duties/Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure compliance with all University, Conference, and NCAA rules and bylaws 
  • Assist with Game Operation and Game Management as needed 
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletic Communications, Associate Director of Athletics, and Associate Vice President of Athletics and Recreation 

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Experience working in a collegiate sports information setting or other related work environment 
  • Experience with collegiate athletic website services (SIDEARM, Presto, etc.) 
  • Experience with statistical programs (StatCrew, PrestoStats, GENIUS NCAA Live Stats, etc.) 
  • Experience with digital photography and video editing software 
  • Experience with Social Media Platforms 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including knowledge of AP Style writing 
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Understanding and commitment to the mission and purpose of Manhattanville University 

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Collegiate or professional playing experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Admission to Manhattanville College’s graduate program  

Education: Bachelor’s Degree Required 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects.  
  • Organizing, transporting, and setting up team specific game day items. 

 Salary:

  • $5,000 Stipend paid over 10 months 
  • Tuition Remission (9 credits per semester) 
  • Subject to maintaining a 3.0 GPA each semester for a maximum of four academic semesters.
  • Summer classes are subject to approval 
  • On-Campus Housing (dorm style only; single room not an option)
  • Limited Meal Plan

Hours Expectation: 

  • Part-time, average load of 20 hours per week over the duration of the appointment period  
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, overnights and weekends.    
  • Travel to competition(s) as assigned
