Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support the accounting operations of a complex, multi-entity real estate organization. This role will work closely with the Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, real estate and/or construction industry experience, and the ability to manage complexity across a large entity structure.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of financial reporting.

· Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements prepared by staff and senior accountants.

· Manage intercompany transactions, eliminations, and consolidations across the entity structure.

· Partner with property management to ensure accurate revenue recognition (including hotel/hospitality-specific metrics such as RevPAR, ADR, and occupancy-driven revenue).

· Assist with cash management, bank reconciliations, and treasury functions across multiple entities and bank accounts.

· Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for individual properties and consolidated portfolio results.

· Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures across all entities and business lines.

· Supervise, train, and mentor staff accountants and property accountants.

· Assist in the onboarding of new entities, acquisitions, and dispositions into the accounting system and reporting structure.

· Support system administration and process improvement initiatives (e.g., AppFolio, Sage, or similar real estate/construction ERP platforms).

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred.

· 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or assistant controller role.

· Experience working within a multi-entity organization; comfort managing complexity across a large number of legal entities and consolidations.

· Proficiency with real estate/property management accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, AppFolio) and construction accounting systems (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Procore) a plus.

· Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial consolidation tools a plus.

· Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize across a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
