Summary/Job Purpose:

The Financial Reporting Lead is responsible for ensuring the organization's internal and external financial reporting, analysis of Statutory and US GAAP financial statements and regulatory filings are completed on a timely basis. This includes overseeing the accounting staff and when necessary preparing financial information for the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes. In addition, the role will include overseeing the financial reporting to our parent company, MS&AD, and the related accounting to conform to MS&AD standards.

Essential Functions:

Financial Reporting

Assist in managing the preparation and review of financial statements including disclosures for the Company's quarterly and annual reporting requirements.

Assist in managing state regulatory filings to ensure state regulator deadlines are met.

Assist in managing the monthly, quarterly and annual close process by ensuring all entries, account reconciliations and other close matters are completed on a timely basis.

Assist in managing the quarterly/annual audits by both internal and external auditors.

Assist in home office financial analysis and reporting requirements to Japan by preparing and/or reviewing adjusting entries to ensure compliance with home office accounting policies.

Utilize critical thinking skills to help streamline the close process via efficiency and automation.

Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key functional departments, including but not limited to Treasury, Investments, Actuarial, Tax, Legal and Internal Audit.

Other Responsibilities

Ensure strong internal control environment around documentation financial reporting and disclosures.

Ensure appropriate training and cross training of staff members.

Back up the Accounting Manager responsibilities.

Other projects as assigned by your manager, such as new system implementation or analysis of certain financial data.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Must supervise, train and mentor the Accounting staff in their accounting and financial reporting responsibilities. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and correcting employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting experience; property and casualty insurance experience required
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and NAIC Statutory accounting and reporting requirements
  • Management experience required
  • Experience with Workday is a plus

SALARY: The estimated salary range for this position is $150,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only. In determining the actual salary within this range, MSIG USA will consider a candidate's relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
