Job description


Hilo Benioff Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to serve as an Assistant Nurse Manager and Operating Room Nurse Educator within our Operating Room. In this leadership role, you will help ensure high-quality patient care by coordinating staff education, supporting clinical operations in the operating room, and mentoring nursing staff. This position combines clinical expertise, staff development, and leadership to support safe, efficient surgical services for patients across the East Hawai'i region.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver education, orientation, and training programs for Surgical Services staff, including new hires and ongoing clinical education.
  • Serve as a clinical expert and mentor, supporting nursing staff with best practices, new techniques, equipment training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Function as charge nurse when assigned, organizing staffing and delegating work based on patient acuity and staff skill levels.
  • Participate in operating room procedures as a circulator or scrub nurse as needed to support surgical teams.
  • Monitor quality of care, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and identify opportunities for improvement in OR operations and patient outcomes.
  • Promote teamwork, positive communication, and excellent customer service among staff, physicians, patients, and families.
Education, Licensure, Certification & Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawai'i required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one (1) month of hire.
  • CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification preferred within one year of appointment.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of professional nursing experience required; 4-5 years of Operating Room experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory aptitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to develop and deliver clinical education programs.
  • Experience with quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams is highly desirable.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements
