Haverford College invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science.
The Department of Computer Science of Haverford College welcomes applications for 1-3 full-time, one-year Visiting Assistant Professor positions for the 2026-27 academic year, with the possibility of continuation for one or two additional years, pending a successful review and departmental staffing needs. Responsibilities will include teaching five-course units over two semesters - often an effective load of 2-2 or 2-1 once lab supervision is considered. Courses could consist of introductory CS (CS1 and CS2), discrete mathematics, and/or upper-level elective courses, including supervising lab or discussion sections. There may also be opportunities to advise a set of senior thesis projects, which count towards the overall teaching units. While there is no research required for this position, active researchers are encouraged to apply, and research funding is available to help visitors continue their research activities.
Candidates in all areas of Computer Science, Mathematics, and related fields are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. (ABD considered) and excellent teaching skills and experience. The College and the Department seek candidates who are well prepared to engage students from a wide range of backgrounds and are equipped to use varied pedagogies in the classroom. These and other capacities as an instructor of undergraduate students should be explained in a detailed statement of teaching experiences and interests.
The appointment officially begins July 1, 2026, and candidates should expect to be on campus by August 25th, 2026. Review of applications will begin on Feb 6, 2026, and continue until the position is filled.
