This is a Term 12 position.

Location - This position is in-person and is located in Edmonton, Alberta in the Oral Health Clinic at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and the Dianne and Irving Kipnes Health Academy.

The Mike Petryk School of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in the DDS Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for preclinical/clinical and didactic teaching at the undergraduate level. Internal applicants are welcome to apply.

This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE, contract under the Academic Teaching Staff (ATS) Agreement. Academic rank and salary will be based on the applicant's credentials and experience. The position has an anticipated start date of September 1, 2026, although there is some flexibility based on applicant availability.

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of the world's top academic health science centres. With 21 departments, multiple research institutes and centres, and a focus on excellence in education, research, and clinical care, the faculty trains outstanding medical and dental professionals and drives global health innovation in collaboration with partners across sectors.

Applicants will have graduated from a DDS/DMD or equivalent program and be eligible for licensure with the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta (CDSA). At least three (3) years' experience in practicing general clinical dentistry with a high degree of confidence in managing and demonstrating all aspects of general dentistry, including fixed and removable prosthodontics, is required.

Must possess effective communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and a passion for teaching, mentoring, and supporting students. The successful applicant will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless integration and ongoing support of pre-clinical practices within our dynamic clinical setting. A core responsibility will involve the continuous calibration and alignment of pre-clinical methodologies with clinical application, ensuring a cohesive and effective educational and operational environment.

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency with digital technologies pertinent to modern clinical dentistry as well as a strong command of administrative digital platforms and tools.

The ideal candidate will possess a proactive approach to technology integration and a commitment to fostering an environment where pre-clinical foundations are robustly supported by clinical practice.

This position offers a comprehensive benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with Schedule D of the Collective Agreement between the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta.

  • Provide clinical Comprehensive Care (CC) and pre-clinical simulation lab supervision, instruction, evaluation & mentorship to students in all years of the DDS program.
  • Demonstrate procedures and provide treatment when required.
  • Ensure students have a positive and supportive clinical learning environment.
  • Perform formative daily clinic grading and provide feedback to students.
  • Provide student feedback to the CC Team on individual student progress as required.
  • Provide feedback regarding student progress to the Discipline Lead.
  • Consults with Specialists when required.
  • Interacts with support staff to ensure students are acting in a professional manner and following infection control protocols.
  • Ensures Electronic Health Records are managed properly and confidentiality is maintained.

To fulfill the remainder of full-time expectations, additional responsibilities will be assigned based on the School's needs and the applicant's skill set. Duties may include, but are not limited to, contributing to:

  • Off-campus external rotations (e.g. Radius, Glenrose, Access for All)
  • Didactic course involvement
  • Various department committees and/or working groups
  • Professional/Clinical Service Provider in the Oral Health Clinic (patient care without learners)
