Description

TITLE: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION:

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the City's computer systems and equipment. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Installation of PC hardware and maintains inventory of PC hardware.
  • Maintenance of computer hardware and local networks.
  • Installs, configures, manages, and trains on software.
  • Troubleshoots to identify and resolve computer and network issues.
  • Cabling for new computer systems.
  • Maintaining documentation for citywide systems.
  • Provide helpdesk support for computer and network issues.
  • Tests and evaluates new technology.


Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED equivalent; previous experience as help desk technician, computer technician, or IT support; Associate degree in IT preferred; in-depth knowledge of internet security and data privacy principals; verbal and written communication skills; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver's license.
