Job description

PURPOSE This role is to provide quality engineering, continuous improvement, and documentation support within the organization. This position requires creativity, innovation, mechanical systems design capability, product evaluation, and research. A successful candidate will be competent in the aspects of design and problem-solving utilizing engineering first principles, as well as leading people and overseeing complex processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Interpret internal and external customer requirements to meet desired outputs.

· Communicate technical knowledge, specification, and direction to internal and external customers.

· Create and analyze data utilizing corporate management system software that include value stream KPIs, performance

metrics, SPC data, failure analysis, CAD models and product documentation.

· Oversee of quality system development.

· Complete required tasks for defined/undefined processes. Recognize need for additional process controls when process

could use improvement.

· Coordinates technical support for both internal and external customers.

· Provide supplier quality assurance solutions, including supplier quality improvement, selection and

assessments and corrective action follow-up.

· Lead a team to accomplish given tasks or processes.

· Travel for the purpose of training, customer support, or trade shows. (Less than 10%)

· Coordinate implementation of inspection and test procedures on the production floor, including training.

· Monitor compliance to Quality System requirements through internal auditing and corrective action follow-up.

· Provide guidance on the resolution on non-conforming material.

· Support and understand statistical process-control methods for engineering, production, and warehouse processes.

· Coordinate resolution of customer product complaints.

· Support the ISO 9001 based Quality System.

· Develop and implement cost of quality measurements to focus organization on continual improvement

· Coordinate customer complaints/requirements including supporting customer quality initiatives, visiting customer

facilities to resolve issues and/or support QA requirements.

· Assist with employee development and mentoring coworkers.

· Overseeing specialty accounts and/or processes such as coordinating internal audits, facilitating special customer

requirements etc)

· Assist with leading special projects within the company related to the QMS

· Ability to lead and supervise other quality personnel.

· All other duties as assigned to support company goals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

· Capacity to work indoors in an office, laboratory, and/or manufacturing environment.

· Ability to work in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.

· Capability to lift objects or equipment weighing up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

· Physical aptitude to use basic hand tools in a laboratory and/or manufacturing environment.

· Ability to travel and/or attend meetings domestic and internationally outside of normal business hours.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s degree in a mechanical or technical engineering discipline or, the equivalent in appropriate education and

experience as determined by management utilizing internal SMC career development criteria.

· Proficient understanding to apply project management principles, methodologies, and documentation.

· Proficient in organizing, training, and facilitating problem solving teams using statistical based, process improvement

methods.

· Proficient understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

· Competent understanding of tolerance as it relates to design intent.

· Competent understanding of common industrial processes and/or controls.

· Proficient understanding of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) processes.

· Proficient at managing time to plan and execute multiple duties effectively.

· Proficient understanding of common assembly processes.

· Proficient in understanding schematics.

· Proficient in basic inspection equipment in a laboratory environment. (Calipers, micrometers, flow meter, voltmeter, etc.)

· Proficient to utilize advanced inspection equipment in a laboratory environment. (microscopes, CMM, contour/roundness

measuring instruments, etc.)

· Proficient ability to provide quality planning input to new product introduction and special project teams

· Proficient ability to communicate utilizing corporate office software.

· Proficient ability to take verbal and/or written direction on tasks, training, or departmental / company policies.

· Proficient ability to communicate, in English, with internal and external customers tactfully and professionally.
