Midwest, a TAG company is seeking a Commercial Refrigeration Installation Technician to support commercial HVAC construction projects in and around the Chicago, IL area.


Role Summary:

The Commercial Refrigeration Installation Technician is responsible for the installation and replacement of commercial refrigeration systems in grocery stores, cold storage facilities, industrial plants, and food service environments. This role supports new construction, remodels, and large-scale equipment upgrades, ensuring refrigeration systems are installed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with mechanical codes, project specifications, and manufacturer requirements.


Roles and Responsibilities:

• Install commercial refrigeration equipment including rack refrigeration systems, condensing units, compressors, evaporators, walk-in coolers/freezers, and display cases
• Assist with rigging, setting, leveling, and securing refrigeration equipment using proper lifting methods and tools
• Install refrigeration piping systems including suction, liquid, and discharge lines
• Install pipe supports, hangers, insulation, and related refrigeration components
• Braze, solder, and pressure test refrigeration piping systems
• Read and interpret refrigeration drawings, mechanical blueprints, and installation plans
• Perform refrigeration system change-outs, retrofits, and mechanical upgrades in active commercial facilities
• Coordinate daily work activities with foremen, superintendents, and other trades on site
• Ensure installations meet manufacturer specifications, refrigeration codes, and company quality standards
• Identify material needs and communicate shortages, conflicts, or delays to project leadership
• Maintain productivity while meeting quality and schedule expectations
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites
• Properly use, care for, and maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles
• Participate in jobsite safety meetings and follow all safety policies and procedures
• Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner to protect employees, subcontractors, and the public


Skills and Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems and installation practices
• Experience installing rack refrigeration systems, condensing units, and refrigeration piping
• Ability to read and follow refrigeration drawings and mechanical blueprints
• Familiarity with copper piping, brazing, pressure testing, and refrigeration installation methods
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in active construction environments
• Strong communication and time-management skills
• Problem-solving mindset in fast-paced commercial job sites

Preferred Qualifications:
