Job description

ASSISTANT COACH BASEBALL - PART TIME
OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE
Olive-Harvey College is seeking an experienced Assistant Coach to help lead the Panthers to victory! The Assistant Coach position will give you the opportunity to provide leadership in the development and evaluation of the overall team and individual student-athletes. You will also be able to provide dynamic, strategic and visionary leadership designed to enhance student success through focus on an "Academics-First" agenda.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
Reporting to the Director of Intercollegiate & Intramural Athletics or to an assigned administrator, the Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach in the activities of an intercollegiate sport by providing instruction, mentorship, and support to student athletes
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Assists the Head Coach in the instruction, development, and evaluation of student athletes.
• Demonstrates sport-specific skills and techniques during practices and training sessions.
• Evaluates athletes' performance and provides constructive feedback to help student athletes improve individual and team performance.
• Assists with the recruitment of student athletes.
• Advises students with respect to athletic performance, personal development, and academic progress. Ensures that athletes reach their academic goals by monitoring class attendance and ensuring they receive academic support as necessary to remain in good academic standing.
• Assists with assessment of equipment, uniforms and other necessary apparel and needs; assists with making team travel arrangements, both in accordance with the Board's purchasing guidelines.
• Assists with training, practices and coaching in league, conference and tournament play.
• Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university OR 60 or more college credits required. Bachelor's degree preferably in Physical Education or related field preferred
• A minimum of two (2) years of coaching and/or professional/collegiate playing experience required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of management.
• Familiarity with NJCAA rules and regulations a plus.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the sport, including rules, strategies, and techniques
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to effectively teach and mentor student athletes from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required for practices and games
• Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment
Salary: $5,000 for a season
OTHER INFORMATION: Coaches are hired on a season by season basis. A reasonable effort is made to assure future coaching assignments to those coaches who have had a history of successful academic and athletic team performances at City Colleges of Chicago. All coaching assignments are conditioned on sufficient team membership. Once a season starts, the coach is expected to complete the season.
