Reports to: Executive Producer
About the Role
WQED seeks an organized, technically skilled Classical Radio Production Coordinator to support the daily programming and production of Classical WQED and its Voice of the Arts programs. This position edits and prepares audio, assists with playlists and program schedules, coordinates guests and events, and maintains the materials and records needed for reliable broadcast and digital distribution.
Reporting to the Executive Producer, the coordinator works closely with hosts, musicians, arts organizations, and cross-functional colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
  • Edit and prepare interviews, performances, promotional spots, cultural features, and other audio for broadcast and digital distribution.
  • Assist the Program Director and hosts with playlist preparation, program scheduling, research, scripts, interview materials, and implementation of established programming priorities.
  • Record audio in the studio and at performances, interviews, and community events, following established production procedures.
  • Coordinate guests, recording sessions, schedules, and other production logistics.
  • Prepare program elements, including metadata, for scheduled broadcast and digital distribution.
  • Support live broadcasts, remote productions, performances, and community events, including setup, guest coordination, production assistance, and follow-up.
  • Create basic video, podcast, and social-media versions of existing Classical WQED content.
  • Maintain accurate production calendars, contact records, and organized media files.
  • Communicate with internal teams and external partners to keep assignments on schedule.
  • Perform production and administrative duties that support Classical WQED's operations.

Qualifications
  • Professional experience in radio, audio, podcast, broadcast production, arts programming, or a comparable environment.
  • Strong audio editing and production skills using professional broadcast or digital-audio software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to manage multiple schedules, files, and deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with hosts, guests, artists, and community partners.
  • Ability to follow established programming direction, production procedures, technical standards, and approval processes.
  • Knowledge of or genuine interest in classical music and the arts and cultural life of southwestern Pennsylvania.
  • Ability to work on site and support scheduled evening and weekend broadcasts, performances, and events. Evening and weekend hours are scheduled and compensated in accordance with WQED's overtime policies.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience in public media, nonprofit media, classical radio, arts administration, or a cultural organization.
  • Experience coordinating live events, guests, recording sessions, or remote productions.
  • Video editing, digital publishing, or social-media production experience.
  • Familiarity with broadcast audio standards, music scheduling systems, traffic or automation systems, and digital asset management.
  • Experience supporting or training interns, volunteers, or emerging professionals.

Compensation & Benefits
The compensation band for this full-time position is $23.00-$28.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Benefits include a PPO health insurance plan; employer-paid dental, vision, disability, and life insurance; and-after 12 months-a 5% employer contribution to a 403(b) retirement plan.
About WQED
WQED Multimedia is an iconic public media institution and one of America's original educational broadcasters. Today, WQED serves hundreds of thousands of neighbors across southwestern Pennsylvania through five television channels, Voice of the Arts, streaming platforms, educational initiatives, digital storytelling, and community engagement.
This is a moment of real transformation. With major shifts in media consumption, the launch of new digital products like WQED+, the elimination of our federal funding, and growing demand for trusted, hopeful, local storytelling, WQED is evolving from a traditional broadcaster into a multi-platform community resource.
Joining WQED now means helping shape how Pittsburgh connects through story, culture, and shared experiences-on air, online, and in person.
