HDR is currently seeking a Civil Engineer. The successful candidate will be involved in design and project coordination and will work closely with a multi-disciplinary project team to create high-quality design solutions.

Reporting to the Civil Engineering Lead, the Civil Engineer is a member of the integrated project team that contributes site civil engineering knowledge and analysis to the project during the design and construction phase of our work. The project mix is varied across building and infrastructure projects, including new residential and commercial developments, data centers, health facilities, industrial and waste management facilities.

The role involves working on multi-disciplinary projects with project sites in various locations, across North America, including GTA, western Canada and various locations in US.

In the role of Civil Engineer, we'll count on you to: 
 
  • Design and plan production for general civil on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities
  • Perform quantity calculations
  • Prepare specifications and contract documents
  • Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary and detailed site civil design packages, including drawings, quantities and specifications 
  • Complete civil design in Autodesk Civil 3D, including site grading and drainage, roadway, wet utilities design (storm sewer, sanitary sewer and watermain)
  • Coordinate civil design with multidisciplinary project team.
  • Assist the project manager in the day-to-day coordination of projects 
  • Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Coordinator as needed
  • Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed

Preferred Qualifications 
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in the municipal infrastructure design using Civil 3D
  • Familiarity with site civil and road design practices including application of design standards, TAC Geometric Design Guide, various provincial and municipal standards
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency with utility modeling (gravity and pressure pipes) in Civil 3D
  • Microstation and OpenRoads experience is welcome
  • Experience with municipal and provincial clients in Ontario 
  • Experience with feasibility studies 

Other Job Details

Further, the position requires:

  • Compliance with HDR and, as applicable, contractor safety and procedures. 
  • Potential attendance at job sites to support design and construction activities 
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in general civil engineering
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
