Position Overview:

Gammon Theological Seminary invites applications for a faculty position in the History of Christianity. This position may be filled as either full-time or part-time, depending on the candidates qualifications and capacity.
We seek a teacher-scholar whose work connects marginalized histories to the broader narrative of Christianity and who can engage global, African American, and ecumenical traditions that shape the churchs life and witness today. Candidates with a focus on Black church history and Afro-diasporic traditions are especially encouraged to apply.
This role is primarily focused on online and hybrid instruction and includes teaching, student advising, and participation in administrative responsibilities within a newly independent seminary. Candidates with administrative experienceparticularly in program development or continuing educationmay be considered for full-time appointment.
Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Instruction

  • Teach introductory and advanced courses in Church History / History of Christianity
  • Deliver engaging instruction across online, hybrid, and in-person formats
  • Incorporate culturally responsive and contextually grounded pedagogies
Student Advising & Formation

  • Advise and mentor students preparing for ministry, public leadership, and service
  • Support students in engaging diverse theological and ecclesial traditions
Scholarship & Academic Engagement

  • Maintain active scholarship in Church History or related fields
  • Engage interdisciplinary approaches that highlight lived experiences of Christian communities
Institutional Service & Leadership

  • Participate in faculty governance and seminary initiatives
  • Contribute to program development, continuing education, or special initiatives (as applicable)
  • Support co-curricular programming for clergy, laity, and public leaders
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Church History, History of Christianity, or a closely related field (ABD candidates near completion will be considered)
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness, preferably at the graduate level
  • Ability to teach diverse student populations across modalities
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scholarship engaging:
    • African American Church History
    • Global Christianity
    • Latin American Church History
    • American religious history or other culturally grounded approaches
  • Commitment to justice-oriented, inclusive theological education
  • Experience teaching in online and hybrid environments
  • Ability to engage topics related to race, gender, sexuality, and global Christian traditions
  • Experience in program development, continuing education, or academic leadership (for full-time consideration)
  • Familiarity with Wesleyan traditions (UMC, AME, CME, or related bodies)
