Beyond compliance, the department returns national benchmark performance data to care teams, physician leaders, and nursing leadership to drive clinical quality improvement across the system. This position is responsible for abstracting clinical data from the Cerner electronic health record into national and state clinical registries (e.g., ACC/NCDR, STS, AHA Get with The Guidelines, ACS NSQIP, and other state-mandated registries), ensuring data accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with registry specifications. This role also performs quality assurance validation and inter-rater reliability (IRR) testing, maintains current knowledge of evolving registry and clinical guideline requirements, and translates registry benchmark data into actionable performance comparisons of Banner Health against national and peer-system outcomes.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Data Abstraction: Abstracts clinical, procedural, and outcomes data from the Cerner patient chart into assigned clinical registries per each registry's data dictionary and specifications.
2. Quality Assurance: Performs routine QA validation on abstracted records to ensure data integrity, completeness, and accuracy prior to registry submission.
3. Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR): Participates in and supports IRR testing/audits to maintain abstraction consistency across the team and meet registry-required reliability thresholds.
4. Registry Submission: Submits validated data within registry deadlines to ACC/NCDR, STS, AHA GWTG, ACS NSQIP, and other assigned registries.
5. Guideline Currency: Maintains up-to-date knowledge of registry specification changes, clinical guideline updates, and abstraction rule changes; complete required registry certifications/training.
6. Benchmarking & Reporting: Retrieves registry performance reports and translate results into clear benchmark comparisons of Banner Health performance against national and peer-system data for clinical and executive stakeholders.
7. Cross-Functional Coverage: Works flexibly across multiple registries and service lines as assigned, supporting a consistent, system-wide abstraction and benchmarking function.
8. Collaboration: Partners with physicians, service line leaders, quality teams, and registry coordinators to resolve data questions and support performance improvement initiatives.
