Job description

OLH Technical Services, subsidiary of Three Saints Bay, LLC, and a Federal Government Contractor industry leader, is seeking a Ballistic Research Assistant to join our Team in Huntsville, AL. Position Responsibilities : * Review medical reports and communicate with medical doctors and/or medical examiners typically for the purpose of reviewing law enforcement related shootings. This may be in-person, telephonically, and/or via TEAMS video conferences with medical examiners, and/or trauma surgeons * Assist with necropsy of field specimens and/or assist with the execution of research on human bodies donated for scientific study purposes * Assemble precision hand-loaded ammunition for long range precision fire assessments * Conduct precision fire weapons accuracy issue problem identification and provide recommendations for the solution * Conduct terminal performance testing of ammunition to include, velocity and accuracy testing * Conduct all phases of destructive weapons testing according to FBI protocols (handguns, long range precision rifles, and Colt pattern rifles), which includes but is not limited to hot, cold, impact testing, optics shift, functional reliability, and endurance assessments of weapon systems * Conduct ballistic gelatin testing according to FBI protocols, to include preparation of gelatin, setting up and conducting the test, entering resultant data into computer databases, and assisting with preparing written reports * Conduct motion analysis using Vision Research (Phantom) motion analysis cameras, video beam trigger device, and Arri HMI lights * Still photography using Nikon and Cannon digital cameras, ranging from telescopic to microscopic images * Conduct inspection of materials using Hawkeye bore scopes * Assist with the creation of reports using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, and Oehler Ballistic software * Assist with the creation of presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint software * Assist with the creation of written reports and records (using specific FBI formats) to document research conducted and briefings provided * Prepare visual aids in support of research * Assist in the preparation of research and testing protocols * Assist in weapon, ammunition, and firearms related accountable property inventories * Assist FBI personnel in firearms related programs * Demonstrate knowledge of the primary firearms currently issued by the FBI which include, but are not limited to, the Glock models 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 43, 43X, and all Gen 5 and M variant pistols, SIG Sauer P220, P226, P228, and P229 pistols, the Remington 870 shotgun, the Heckler & Koch MP5/10mm submachine gun and carbine, the Colt pattern rifle and carbine * such knowledge must include nomenclature, operating controls, disassembly and assembly, safety systems, and firing techniques * Maintain proficiency in the use of current Bureau issued or approved firearms, as required for FBI certified firearms instructors * Occasionally provide firearms instruction/range safety support to law enforcement personnel or authorized guests during live fire events. Provide briefings and demonstrations (including live fire) to visitors, including the operation of ballistic research equipment. Position Required Experience (years of experience/certification(s)/specialized experience) * Minimum of 10 years conducting structured ballistic research, with an emphasis on testing ammunition, ballistic protective garments and weapons. * Medical field degree (doctorate) from an accredited university * Education Level: Medical Field Degree (Doctorate) Preferred Experience: * FBI (or approved equivalent) training/certification as a firearms instructor, observer/sniper, and certification as a police instructor * Current or prior experience as a law enforcement officer, to include tactical police training * Thorough, demonstrated knowledge of law enforcement firearms and ammunition * Demonstrated knowledge of scientific method and process * Ability to prepare reports and other documents using common computer software * Expert level knowledge for ballistic research and testing techniques including the use of Oehler Ballistic Instruments (models 83, 85, 88, and 89) * Thorough, demonstrated knowledge of weapons testing techniques including function testing, accuracy testing, destructive testing, and ammunition assimilability testing * Thorough, demonstrated knowledge of the techniques required to photograph testing and research, including digital still photography, digital imaging, videotaping, and motion analysis photographic equipment * Significant level of firearms related teaching experience (e.g., firearms training provided) * Expert level of understanding, usage, and troubleshooting with Oehler ballistic instruments provided by the FBI * Expertise with both the use and theory of Piezoelectric Conformal Transducers along with analysis of attendant pressure testing results * Demonstrated knowledge of the primary firearms currently issued by the FBI which include, but are not limited to, the Glock models 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 43, 43X, and all Gen 5 and M variant pistols, SIG Sauer P220, P226, P228, and P229 pistols, the Version 1.0 Page 5 Remington 870 shotgun, the Heckler & Koch MP5/10mm submachine gun and carbine, the Colt pattern rifle and carbine - such knowledge must include nomenclature, operating controls, disassembly and assembly, safety systems, and firing techniques VEVRAA Federal Contractor Three Saints Bay, LLC and its subsidiaries offer a team-oriented working environment and the opportunity to work with exceptional, dedicated industry professionals.
