Description:

The Non-CDL Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and courteous delivery of building materials to our customers. This role is critical to ensuring timely job site support and reinforcing SBSI’s reputation for outstanding service. The driver also assists with loading, securing, and unloading of materials while adhering to all safety procedures and DOT regulations for non-CDL vehicles.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting all issues immediately
  • Ensure that all loads are properly secured using company-approved methods (straps, tarps, etc.)
  • Operate vehicle in accordance with all DOT regulations, state laws, and SBSI safety standards
  • Use proper lifting techniques and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Actively participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions or near-misses in real time to promote a culture of safety
  • Maintain a clean and organized vehicle to reduce hazards and enhance professional appearance


Customer Service:

  • Greet all customers and site contacts with professionalism and a customer-first attitude
  • Ensure materials are delivered to the correct location and in excellent condition
  • Assist in verifying material quantities and resolving delivery discrepancies
  • Communicate respectfully and clearly with customers, site supervisors, and dispatchers
  • Represent SBSI’s values and commitment to service excellence at every job site
  • Proactively communicate ETAs, delays, or delivery concerns to keep customers informed


Driver Knowledge & Operational Support:

  • Understand how to read and interpret delivery tickets, load lists, and route maps
  • Navigate efficiently using GPS systems, route planning apps, or local knowledge
  • Know how to operate a variety of delivery vehicles under 26,000 lbs. GVWR, including flatbeds, stake beds, and pickup trucks
  • Assist with material handling, staging, and loading/unloading with forklifts or manually
  • Maintain detailed delivery logs, fuel receipts, and signed documentation per SBSI standards
  • Support warehouse and yard operations when not on delivery routes


Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record
  • At least 1 year of relevant driving or delivery experience preferred
  • Familiarity with common building materials and safe handling practices a plus
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently
  • Forklift experience or certification preferred
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 75 lbs. repeatedly
  • Commitment to safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Must be at least 21 years old to meet insurance and driving requirements
