Job description

We are looking for a 2nd Shift Mechanic's Assistant/Blaster to join our Shop Team.

The Mechanic's Assistant/Blaster is position that performs a variety of mechanical operations / tasks on turbomachinery components and assemblies to ensure compliance with specifications and quality requirements. Basic cleanup of the shop facilities, blasting, solvent cleaning, and painting of rotating equipment parts.

PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the safety policy, procedures and instructions.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • General mechanical helper participating in disassembly of rotating equipment.
  • Hard blast and bead blast parts (with proper training).
  • Steam clean and solvent clean parts.
  • Tap and clean threaded holes, hone mating faces.
  • Apply Belzona coatings (with proper training)
  • Prep and paint parts with approved coatings (with proper training).
  • General shop cleanup.
  • Prep shop equipment (balance machines, lathes, mills, etc.) for painting per RMS specifications.
  • Fabrication and structural welding of fixturing and skids for shop use. Blast and paint fixturing and skids per RMS specifications.
  • Tack welding of balance weights for balance technician.
  • Light mechanic work with supervision of evening shift mechanic.
  • Assist evening shift machinist with set ups or moving parts to and from machines.
  • Assist evening shift personnel with logistic issues.
  • Operate for truck (training will be provided).
  • Perform other duties as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to stand and walk for significant portions of the shift.
  • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 30-50 lbs, walk, climb, kneel, crawl and balance.
  • Must be able to use hands for assembly and tool usage.
  • Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals including aluminum, copper, bronze and steel.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work in an environment of constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities.
  • Ability and willingness to be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work around and use large propane / acetylene torches.
  • Ability to operate small lifts, pallet jacks and other lifting equipment (training will be provided on our specific equipment, but basic skills are required beforehand).
  • Must have mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer and math skills.
  • Patience, attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Position is full-time in our Bethlehem, PA shop.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two years of experience working in an industrial or machine shop setting preferred.
  • Minimum of two years experience with component assembly and dynamic balancing preferred.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution.
