Job description

Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) - Hospital Emergency Services
Are you passionate about emergency medicine and fast-paced patient care? Join our team as an Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) and play a critical role supporting physicians and nurses in a dynamic hospital Emergency Department.
The ED Technician is a skilled healthcare professional who provides Basic Life Support (BLS) patient care and clinical assistance to patients in the Emergency Department. Working closely with Emergency Department Registered Nurses and Emergency Physicians, the ED Tech supports both routine and urgent patient care needs.
In this role, you will assist with a variety of clinical procedures and patient care tasks, helping ensure patients receive safe, efficient care during emergency situations. The ED Technician reports to the Director of Emergency Services and works under the supervision of the Emergency Department RN or Emergency Physician.
What You'll Do
As an Emergency Department Technician, you will assist the clinical team with a variety of direct patient care and emergency support duties, including:
• Providing Basic Life Support (BLS) patient care in collaboration with ED nurses and physicians
• Taking and documenting vital signs and patient observations
• Assisting with orthopedic procedures, including custom splinting and casting support
• Preparing patients for suturing, wound care, and urinary catheter placement
• Performing phlebotomy and specimen collection
• Applying dressings and wound care treatments
• Assisting with patient preparation for diagnostic procedures and emergency treatments
• Supporting patient transport and clinical workflow in the Emergency Department
Emergency Preparedness
ED Technicians also play an important role in bioterrorism and disaster preparedness, including:
• Supporting mass casualty and disaster response readiness
• Assisting with preparation for large-scale patient influx during emergency events
• Participating in Emergency Department preparedness initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Experience
Minimum of one year pre-hospital EMS experience preferred
Licensure & Certification
BLS Certification - Healthcare Provider required
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification preferred
Skills & Competencies
Successful candidates will demonstrate:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced emergency department environment
• Strong teamwork and patient care skills
• Basic computer and electronic documentation skills
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Ability to maintain confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
