NOTICE OF VACANCY


GIRLS ASSISTANT BASKETBALL COACH


School/Program Features:

● Approximately 1860 students in grades 9-12

● School is located in southwest Marion County

● Member of Mid-State Conference with Franklin, Greenwood, Martinsville, Mooresville, Perry Meridian,Plainfield, and Whiteland

● Member of (4A) Sectional - Center Grove, Decatur Central, Franklin Central, Greenwood, Perry Meridian,Southport

● Two certified athletic trainers on staff

● Great facilities; including state of the art weight room, Armstrong (Indoor) Pavilion, athletic annex building, main competition gym, auxiliary gym, locker rooms, team meeting room/classroom/offices, and a Field-Turf multi-purpose field.


Qualifications:

● Previous basketball coaching experience preferred

● Currently possess or has ability to obtain IHSAA coaching certification

● Excellent communication and leadership skills

● Knowledge of fundamental basketball skills

● Ability to form positive relationships with student-athletes, school staff, and community members

● Ability to organize, supervise, and administer all phases of an education-based basketball program

Decatur Central High School is seeking a dedicated Girls Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach.

This role supports the Head Coach in fostering a culture of daily discipline, accountability, and excellence.

Our mission is to develop confident, team-first student-athletes through intentional mentorship and high-level basketball instruction.


Primary Responsibilities


Player Development & Strategy

● Skill Instruction: Teach fundamentals and basketball IQ through detailed, intentional drills.

● Game Prep: Assist with scouting, film breakdown, and in-game tactical adjustments.

● Performance: Provide constructive feedback and support strength and conditioning programs.


Program Culture & Leadership

● Mentorship: Build trust-based relationships while maintaining high expectations.

● Standards: Model the program’s core values: discipline, consistency, and integrity.

● Academics: Monitor student-athlete progress to ensure success in the classroom and beyond.


Operations & Alignment

● Organization: Assist with practice planning, scheduling, and community engagement.

● Collaboration: Work with athletic trainers and staff to ensure athlete health and safety.

● Communication: Maintain professional transparency with players, families, and staff.


Qualifications & Key Traits


Required Qualifications:

● Previous basketball playing and/or coaching experience.

● Strong grasp of basketball fundamentals, modern strategy, and film analysis.

● Ability to connect with and motivate high school-aged student-athletes.

● Availability for the full 9-month in-season and off-season schedule.
