Job description

Position Summary:

Leidos is seeking a highly qualified Avionics Engineering Support professional to provide engineering and technical support for Hybrid SATCOM systems supporting defense and government aviation programs. The selected candidate will support the integration, testing, sustainment, and modernization of airborne satellite communication and avionics systems across multiple aircraft platforms operating within commercial and military communication environments. This position supports missionโ€‘critical Hybrid SATCOM capabilities that enable secure, resilient, and reliable airborne communications for operational missions worldwide. The candidate will work closely with crossโ€‘functional engineering teams to integrate SATCOM, RF, avionics, networking, and mission systems while supporting system performance, interoperability, and operational readiness requirements. This role works independently to achieve dayโ€‘toโ€‘day objectives with significant impact on operational results and project deliverables. Responsibilities include analyzing complex technical issues, developing and implementing avionics solutions, and collaborating with internal subject matter experts to resolve challenges affecting system performance and integration. The Avionics Engineering Support professional is also expected to provide technical guidance, coaching, and work review for junior engineering staff while applying deep technical expertise and analytical skills to deliver effective and innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the integration, testing, and sustainment of airborne Hybrid SATCOM and avionics systems across multiple aircraft platforms.
  • Assist with integration of SATCOM terminals, RF communication systems, antennas, avionics interfaces, mission equipment, and aircraft network systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action support for avionics, SATCOM, RF, and airborne communication system issues.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including interface control documents, installation packages, wiring diagrams, test procedures, and technical reports.
  • Support laboratory, ground, and flight testing activities to verify Hybrid SATCOM system performance, interoperability, and operational readiness.
  • Coordinate with systems, electrical, RF, software, and network engineering teams to support endโ€‘toโ€‘end airborne communication system integration.
  • Ensure compliance with aviation, cybersecurity, airworthiness, and engineering standards associated with airborne SATCOM and avionics systems.
  • Analyze system performance data and provide engineering recommendations to improve communication reliability, system availability, and mission effectiveness.
  • Participate in technical reviews, customer meetings, and program briefings to communicate technical status, risks, and engineering solutions.
  • Support configuration management, requirements traceability, and engineering change activities throughout the Hybrid SATCOM system lifecycle.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree with 4+ years of prior relevant experience or Masterโ€™s degree with 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with airborne communication systems integration, avionics troubleshooting, verification and validation, and technical documentation development.
  • Knowledge of Hybrid SATCOM architectures, RF communication systems, avionics interfaces, aircraft integration processes, and mission communication systems.
  • Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a geographically dispersed team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience supporting avionics systems, airborne communications, SATCOM integration, or aerospace engineering programs.
  • Experience supporting DoD, military aviation, airborne ISR, or tactical communication programs involving SATCOM capabilities.
  • Knowledge of FAA, MIL-STD, RTCA/DO-160, airworthiness certification, and electromagnetic compatibility requirements.
  • Experience supporting flight testing, aircraft modification programs, antenna integration, and airborne network communication systems.
  • Familiarity with secure communication systems, tactical data links, and military SATCOM operations.
  • Professional certifications related to avionics, aerospace systems, systems engineering, networking, or cybersecurity.
Pay Range

Pay Range: $87,100.00 โ€“ $157,450.00
