Job description

OVERVIEW
JOB SUMMARY:
  • You will provide valuable assistance to faculty, staff, students and university guests with audio-visual (AV) technology and sometimes web conferencing (Zoom), primarily in classrooms and sometimes in event spaces.
  • Opportunity to assist with AV for events.
  • On-the-job experience and mentoring is provided by full-time staff and experienced student technician peers to hone your ability to understand, use and troubleshoot AV technology.
  • Assist with AV maintenance, upgrades, installations and inventory control projects.
  • Collaborative problem-solving using Microsoft Teams and our ticket system (TDX) to manage AV requests for assistance and break/fix incidents.
  • Participate in a mutually supportive environment with students who work at the Tech Desk, as well as student techs who primarily support events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Quickly respond to and manage classroom (and occasionally event) technology emergencies, initiating follow up as needed in some instances
  • Assist users with classroom and event space technology by appointment
  • Assist full-time AV staff with monitoring and maintaining AV technology
  • Hang (and remove) large flat panel displays, and projectors.
  • Troubleshoot and install: AV switchers and control system hardware, PCs connected to AV systems, and AV peripherals.

QUALIFICATIONS
TRANSFERABLE SKILLS
  • Use and develop strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous customer service experience helpful
  • Collaborative problem-solving within a mutually supportive team framework
  • Using an array of electronic systems to conduct, track and document work, as well as collaborate with tech colleagues
  • Using situational awareness and judgement
  • Ability to work independently
  • Practicing troubleshooting fundamentals
  • Learning AV systems and components
  • Previous experience with AV equipment/support and/or networked equipment a plus
  • Ability to occasionally lift 50 lbs to chest height (some flat panel displays weigh 100+ lbs, but would lifted by 2-3 staff working together, so never exceeds 50 lbs per person lifting) - is a plus
