Intrepid Control Systems is seeking an Applications Engineer / Field Support Engineer to join our California team as the primary point of contact for technical customer support. In this role, you will engage with customers via phone, email, and onsite visits to resolve technical issues. You will serve as a liaison between our customers and Intrepid's engineering team, allowing the Senior Applications Engineer to concentrate on expanding new business opportunities.

Requirements:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field
  • 1–3 years of experience in a technical support, systems engineering, or applications engineering role (automotive/embedded systems preferred)
  • Working knowledge of vehicle network protocols: CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Automotive Ethernet
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, and/or C++
  • Comfortable troubleshooting hardware, software, and electrical issues independently
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills — phone, email, and in-person
  • Willingness to travel onsite to customer locations as needed (California-based, with regional travel)
  • Experience with tools like Vehicle Spy, CANalyzer, or similar diagnostic/logging tools is a plus
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as first point of contact for technical support inquiries via phone, email, and onsite visits
  • Triage, debug, and resolve hardware, software, and electrical issues reported by customers
  • Travel onsite to customer locations to diagnose and resolve field issues on data loggers and networking tools
  • Act as a technical bridge between customers and Intrepid's engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams
  • Communicate new/recurring issues to engineering and help drive countermeasures to improve reliability and reduce service costs
  • Support commissioning and integration of customer test environments
  • Demonstrate data logger features, tools, and Vehicle Spy functionality to customers
  • Assist with proof-of-concept implementations for key customers
  • Provide technical guidance on vehicle networks including CAN, LIN, FlexRay, and Automotive Ethernet
  • Help maintain and troubleshoot against requirements specifications for Intrepid data loggers
  • Document customer issues, resolutions, and field failure trends
  • Support upgrades and product recommendations for existing customers
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Applications Engineer on account handoffs and escalations
