What is the Opportunity. Reporting to the Director, Operations of The Glenn Gould School, the Recording Engineer provides technical sound engineering and recording support for a variety of performances, events, and other role-relevant endeavors at The Royal Conservatory of Music. The incumbent of this role combines a high level of technical knowledge with critical and creative acumen to support the development of high caliber content for school use and for promotional purposes in collaboration with our Marketing department.

Main Duties & Responsibilities Records audio and video for various events, such as Glenn Gould School student recitals, professional recording sessions with artists and faculty, concerts ranging from chamber music to large orchestral works and other special events as required. Audio and video support for Glenn Gould School classes on an as-needed basis. Provides technical support for development/fundraising projects that utilize student recordings, inclusive of livestreaming and live sound.

Production inclusive of editing, mixing and mastering both audio and video content, for archival or promotional purposes. Collaborates with creative teams and performers to provide input on optimal placement of performers, audio capturing devices and equipment needed to capture recordings of the highest quality possible. Strong file management and archiving skills, with the ability to follow pre-set guidelines.

Performing other role-relevant duties as required.What We're Looking For A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in music, with a focus on audio engineering. A Master's degree in sound recording or a related discipline preferred. Demonstrated ability, via past projects, to record and master audio in a variety of settings and instruments involved

Demonstrated ability, via past projects, to edit video content. Knowledge and experience with current digital audio workstation ("DAW") software and standard video editing software (e.g. Pro Tools)

A proficient understanding of technical specifications of both audio and video systems such as MADI, various cabling (BNC, XLR, HDMI), digital audio clocking, routing and standard video formats. An eagerness and passion for sound engineering, ensuring skills are kept current and informed by industry trends, developments, and best practices. A passion for the performing arts and music industry at large.

Ability to collaborate with diverse teams, work with stakeholders from other departments and teams, and develop realistic timelines around project deadlines and turnaround times. Collaborates well with others in a team environment. Ability to respond to email and scheduling inquiries in an efficient and timely manner.

Hourly Rate $37.00 - $41.00 per hour Additional Information Casual hours on a flexible schedule determined by scheduling, demand, and availability. Must be available to work regularly in the evenings and on weekends. Certain projects will require larger time commitments and work on evenings and/or weekends
