Media Broadcast Technician 

What you'll do: 

As a Full-Time Broadcast Technician on the Media Engineering team in Edmonton, you will help support:

  • 2 television stations (CityTV and OMNI)
  • 5 radio stations (SONiC 102.9, KiSS 91.7, ROCK 97.7, ROCK 97.9, Country 93.3)
  • Maintain broadcast production facilities, local and remote Broadcast tower sites, and transmitters
  • Ensuring broadcasting compliance for broadcasting over the air feeds
  • Maintain, repair and install AM, FM and DTV transmission systems, including microwave and associated subsystems.
  • Support all studio and mobile broadcast equipment
  • Assist with radio simulcasts, web encoding, and video/audio editing
  • Support automation systems and file-sharing platforms
  • Help develop, schedule, and implement preventative maintenance plans
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and collaborate with production, on air and news teams to resolve them
  • Assess faults, prioritize repairs, and recommend solutions
  • Assist in researching and implementing new broadcast equipment and systems
  • Support media-related IT systems, including servers, networks, and applications
  • Work with internal IT teams to ensure compliance with corporate standards
  • Rotating shifts and after-hours con call with occasional travel
  • Your work will directly support production, programing and on-air teams in delivering a high-quality viewing and listening experience.

What you'll bring: 

  • Passion for video/audio production, streaming, and media technology
  • Basic knowledge of video and audio transcoding
  • Familiarity with compression formats (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, H.265, J2K)
  • Understanding of broadcast and production workflows
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies
  • Experience creating system diagrams (e.g., AutoCAD) is an asset
  • Valid provincial driver's license
  • Calm demeanor under challenge with strong customer focus
  • Comfortable lifting and handling standard broadcast equipment and working on ladders under 2 meters
  • Comfort working flexible hours when required and being on a regular after-hours on-call rotation with other team members.
