Position Summary
The University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a Division I FBS institution competing in the Mountain West Conference. Nestled at the base of the scenic Sandia Mountains, Albuquerque offers stunning sunrises and sunsets, along with over 310 sunny days each year. The city is home to the world's largest Balloon Fiesta and provides easy access to outdoor attractions, including national parks, Carlsbad Caverns, and White Sands. Santa Fe, a hub of history and culture, is just a short drive or train ride away. The campus is conveniently located near the International Sunport Airport.
Position Overview:
This role is ideal for an aspiring athletic trainer looking for hands-on experience in a Division I athletic environment. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will provide athletic training services under the guidance of a team physician and report to the Director of Sports Medicine. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a dynamic and supportive sports medicine team.
What You'll Do:
• Coordinate injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses.
• Maintain accurate, timely medical records for athletes.
• Coordinate referrals to physicians and specialists as needed.
• Serve as a liaison between coaches, athletes, physicians, and parents.
• Provide preceptor duties for UNM's athletic training education program.
• Oversee daily operations and maintenance of sports medicine facilities.
• Provide coverage for daily practices, home games, and travel with the assigned team.
• Complete administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.
• Ensure continuing education in compliance with the Board of Certification and New Mexico Board of Athletic Trainers.
• Adhere to NCAA and Mountain West Conference rules and regulations.
• Develop and distribute visiting team information.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
• Non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel with the team.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
