Job description

Signet is seeking an experienced gemologist to join our team as an Appraiser, responsible for evaluating jewelry and ensuring accurate identification and valuation for appraisal documentation.
What To Expect
This role will require the person to work on-site due to the nature of the work.

  • Work Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm PST, Monday through Friday

Job Summary
The primary focus of this position is to assist with Signet and non-Signet brand jewelry appraisals by writing accurate and professional appraisals of jewelry items and communicating with colleagues, customer services representatives, and jewelry sales associates within the Signet enterprise.
A Graduate Gemologist degree is required. Certified Gemologist or Certified Gemologist Appraiser title is a plus. USPAP compliant is a plus. Current or previous affiliation with ISA, NAJA or AGA is a plus. Familiarity with industry terminology and gemological equipment is required. This position requires teamwork within the Quality Control and Appraisal departments as well as with our retail stores.
Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparing customer appraisals including evaluating jewelry, researching replacement pricing, and documenting official appraisal

  • Identify and measure various gemstones

  • Photograph jewelry

  • Grade Diamonds

  • Test metals

  • Check to be sure all stones are genuine

  • Asses jewelry to be sure it meets our company gemological standards

  • Asses for proper hallmarks and karat stamps

  • Analyze quality of metal work and check the tightness of settings

  • Verify certifications

  • Prepare proper documentation for any QC rejections

  • Other assorted distribution tasks

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate Gemologist required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Able to operate standard gemological instruments

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Demonstrate analytical and creative problem solving

  • Factual, articulate and professional written communication skills

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize and self-manage within strict timelines

  • Some mandatory overtime required

  • 3 years of appraisal experience is required
