Description
Thrive Pet Healthcare offers a Veterinary Rotating Internship in Equine and/or Bovine Medicine - after completing veterinary school, spend one year training in emergency & specialty care. We also offer additional skills and tools needed for a long & successful career in veterinary medicine. You will be prepared to pursue additional specialty training or General Practice / Ambulatory positions. Thrive offers this LA Internships to begin June 2027:
  • Equine - Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in Snohomish, WA
  • Bovine - Elgin Veterinary Hospital in Elgin, TX (near Austin)

Candidates must be eligible to obtain a veterinary license in the United States, and start by June 14, 2027.
A little about Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital - Equine Internship
Our team of enthusiastic specialists and ambulatory practitioners supports a rotating internship combining hospital and ambulatory work. Mentorship would come from boarded surgeons, internist, and veterinarians that have extensive experience in working closely with interns for case management. We have the only facility with multiple boarded equine specialists in the area. Case load consists mostly of equine patients with occasional small ruminants and camelids. After hours on call schedule is split among interns with pre-determined weekend time off and protected weekday/weeknight time off.
The goal of our internship program is to provide knowledge and confidence for our interns to join private practice or a residency program. Interns have primary case responsibility under the supervision of a senior clinician for the duration of the internship. The interns perform daily assessment of their cases, complete medical records, present cases in daily rounds, perform diagnostics, administer anesthesia, assist in surgery and medicine procedures and participate in monthly journal club. The interns on ambulatory service are under the direction of our doctors on all cases such as dentals, lameness exams, reproductive work, podiatry, etc. Interns will be fully competent to address aspects of patient care at an either primary role, or with indirect supervision. It's our preference to have 3 Interns each year, allowing us to balance training goals and schedule for a quality experience.
Facility includes two full surgical suites with pillow recovery systems, a standing procedure/surgery room, a reference-quality laboratory, a covered lameness evaluation arena, and several treatment areas. The main barn has stall space for 15 in-patients with an additional 3 climate-controlled ICU stalls and a 4-stall isolation facility. Stalls can be converted into a fully operational NICU. The hospital is well equipped with two SurgiVet anesthesia machines with ventilators, complete anesthesia monitoring equipment, extracorporeal shock wave, digital radiology, digital ultrasound, 600 mA radiology, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, ASIF bone plating instruments, PRP, IRAP, Pro-Stride, and a 0.3 Tesla MRI. Clients also have access to acupuncture, chiropractic and Chinese herbal medicine through our integrative medicine and rehabilitation center. We offer the services of clinical pathology, cardiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, and radiology on a consultation basis with board-certified specialists.
About Elgin Large Animal Hospital
The Equine Division specializes in orthopedic surgery, lameness, reproduction, and emergency and critical care. Interns will gain hands on and practical knowledge in all aspects of equine medicine to become competent practitioners. Our caseload is predominantly racing quarter horses and very heavy in sports medicine. Mentorship with be focused on helping interns feel confident in their developing skillset and finish the year ready to practice on their own.
The Bovine Division has many years of experience serving the food animal industry in many production areas including; purebred cattle, commercial cow/calf, stocker, feed lot, bucking stock, as well as, club calf producers. Our Staff is here to help with any animal needs or client requests.
