Job description

Small animal, two doctor hospital in Athens, Georgia area seeking mature, dependable, responsible, motivated individual to join our team. We have over 40 years of combined veterinary experience and a strong client base that allows us to practice very high quality medicine. This position is full time (40 hours a week) and occasional overtime. A typical schedule would be 7-6,7-2, 7-1, 7-6,7-1 allowing flexibility and time off. You will rotate and share weekends and holidays (Saturday's we close at noon). No after hours emergency work.
We are a general, small animal practice with some exotics patients as well. We also have canine rehabilitation and hydrotherapy as part of our practice as well as some boarding. We have digital radiographs, including digital dental; ECG, hematology and blood chemistry on site. We use Avimark medical software and are a paper light practice. We will refer cases to specialist when medically indicated.
The position available is a full- time veterinary assistant/technician. We are seeking a veterinary assistant that is proficient in:
- Phlebotomy, intravenous catheterization,
- Administration of medications and vaccinations
-Administering and maintaining intravenous fluids and administering subcutaneous fluids.
-Performing fecal testing, centrifugation, and microscopic examination of samples.
-Familiar with sterile surgical techniques, surgical pack preparation, instrument care and cleaning and autoclave use.
-Performing appropriate exam room blood tests and use of various hematology and chemistry blood machines.
-Collecting fecal samples and ability to use a centrifuge and examine microscopic samples.
-Ability to read charts and know the appropriate language for vaccines and medications and be able to collect and dispense these per the doctor’s orders.
-Ability to communicate with clients in the exam room in a professional, friendly manner at all times.
-Assist in performing inventory management and assistance ordering and restocking.
-Familiar with positioning and taking radiographs, including dental radiology.
-Assisting doctors in the exam room, and surgery as needed, including occasional operative assistance.
- Working knowledge of flea, tick, heartworm products and prescription diets.
-Preparing patients for surgery, monitoring anesthesia and monitoring equipment, maintaining appropriate anesthesia records, maintaining anesthetic and oxygen equipment and supplies.
-General animal care, restraint techniques, ability to occasionally handle pets with aggressive tendencies.
-Physically able to bend, stoop, stand for long periods of time, lift pets up to 50lbs by yourself, ability to handle larger pets with assistance
-You must have an exceptional attitude and communication skills towards clients and employees alike. You will assist in phone calls for postoperative or hospitalized or boarding pets
-Ability to answers phones, triage and provide some guidance for incoming calls
-You must be a detailed oriented individual with the ability to help enter and maintain medical records and follow directions.
-Ability to provide post -operative care instructions.
-Willingness to compassionately assist with euthanasia
-General facilities care including sweeping, moping, laundry, and overall cleanliness of all surfaces including cages and kennel facilities.
-Familiar with Microsoft, ability to assist with social media post as needed.
