Job description

Position Summary 

The Embryologist is responsible for performing all aspects of animal (bovine) in vitro fertilization (IVF) and embryo production. This role requires strict adherence to laboratory protocols, exceptional attention to detail, and consistent application of aseptic techniques to ensure high-quality embryo production and laboratory performance. 

The Embryologist works closely with veterinarians, laboratory personnel, and management to support embryo production goals while maintaining the highest standards of quality control, biosecurity, and laboratory efficiency. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The duties listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required: 

  • Perform routine IVF laboratory procedures. 
  • Maintain strict aseptic technique and laboratory cleanliness standards. 
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) precisely and consistently. 
  •  Accurately record laboratory data, results, and inventory in electronic and paper
    record systems. 
  • Assist with laboratory equipment setup, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. 
  • Assist in training and mentoring laboratory assistants and junior embryologists as assigned. 
  • Support inventory management and laboratory supply organization. 
  •  Collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient laboratory operations and successful client outcomes. 

Required Skills & Experience 

  • Passion for bovine reproduction and reproductive biotechnology. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills. 
  • Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain accurate records. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new techniques and technologies. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Degree in Animal Science, Biology, Biotechnology, Veterinary Technology, or a related field. 
  • Experience in bovine IVF, animal embryology, or reproductive biotechnology. 
  • Experience with embryo grading and cryopreservation techniques. 
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and overnight travel based on production schedules. 

Work Environment & Requirements 

  • Laboratory setting with exposure to biological materials. 
  • Frequent use of microscopes, incubators, cryogenic equipment, and laboratory chemicals. 
  • Requires prolonged periods of microscope work and fine motor skills. 
  • Adherence to PPE requirements and laboratory safety protocols at all times. 
  • Ability to work occasional weekends, holidays, or extended hours during peak production periods.
