Assistant Aligner information

What is an assistant aligner?

Assistant Aligners are dental professionals who support orthodontists and dentists in fitting, adjusting, and maintaining clear aligners or traditional braces for patients. Their duties may include preparing patients for procedures, taking dental impressions, providing instructions on aligner care, and assisting with minor adjustments. They ensure that aligner treatments progress smoothly and help manage patient records and appointments. Assistant Aligners play a key role in enhancing patient comfort and ensuring effective orthodontic outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assistant aligner?

To thrive as an Assistant Aligner, you need a basic understanding of orthodontic procedures, attention to detail, and manual dexterity, often supported by a high school diploma or dental assisting certification. Familiarity with dental imaging software, aligner fabrication systems, and infection control protocols is typically required. Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills help you support dental professionals and ensure patient comfort. These skills are crucial for maintaining high-quality patient care and effective collaboration in an orthodontic setting.

What are some common challenges faced by assistant aligners when working with orthodontic patients?

Assistant Aligners often encounter challenges such as ensuring patients correctly understand aligner usage and care instructions, handling patient anxieties about orthodontic procedures, and maintaining accurate records for each treatment phase. They also need to coordinate closely with orthodontists and dental technicians to keep treatment plans on track. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential to navigate these challenges and support successful patient outcomes.

Job description

Part-Time Dental Assistant| Sweet Tooth Dentistry Valencia
Valencia, CA | Part-time |

Who we are:
Sweet Tooth Dentistry Valencia is a wellness-focused general dentistry practice. We believe the mouth is a window to the body, and we treat the whole patient, not just the tooth. Our team is known for comprehensive exams, clear aligner orthodontics, cosmetic bonding and smile design, and appointments that never feel rushed.

If you've worked in offices where the schedule is packed so tight you can't set up a room properly or connect with a patient, this will feel different. We take our time because good dentistry requires it.

What you'll do:
  • Assist chairside during restorative, cosmetic, and clear aligner appointments.
  • Set up and break down operatories, and keep sterilization running smoothly.
  • Take X-rays and intraoral photos and scans.
  • Help patients feel informed and at ease, before, during, and after treatment.
  • Support the doctor and team so the day flows well for everyone.

What we're looking for:
  • Current RDA license, or DA with X-ray safety certification and a plan toward RDA.
  • Current coronal polish certification is a plus.
  • At least 1 year of chairside experience preferred; newer assistants with the right attitude are welcome to apply.
  • Gentle hands and a calm presence, especially with anxious patients.
  • Genuine interest in learning; experience or curiosity about clear aligners and cosmetic dentistry is a plus.
  • Reliable, organized, and a team player who notices what needs doing.

What you can expect from us:
  • A doctor who mentors and explains, not just delegates.
  • A practice philosophy centered on ethics, education, and patient wellness, not production quotas.
  • A schedule that respects your time; part-time here means part-time.
  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience and licensure.
  • Benefits for part-time team members: dental care for you and your family, CE support, paid sick time, PTO, Holiday Pay, and Savings plan.

How to apply:
Send your resume and a few sentences about why you chose dental assisting. Applications with a personal note get read first.
