The position supports innovation and long-term growth by researching emerging technologies and leading or supporting engineering projects through effective project management.
Main Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Analyze equipment performance data to identify trends, chronic failures, and opportunities for reliability improvement.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Lead root cause analysis and failure modes and effects analysis to investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to resolve equipment reliability issues and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Evaluate and optimize asset life cycle strategies, including spare parts management, equipment upgrades, and replacements.
  • Support capital projects by providing input on equipment selection, reliability specifications, and risk assessments.
  • Utilize reliability tools and software (e.g., CMMS, vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication analysis, etc.) to improve equipment uptime and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Continuously work to improve equipment uptime, quality performance, and throughput by optimizing reliability and maintenance practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing operational inefficiencies within the department.
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to equipment reliability, maintenance effectiveness, and asset performance; assist in tracking maintenance and reliability performance metrics; generate and present weekly reports to support decision-making and drive accountability.
  • Research and apply emerging technologies to improve equipment reliability and plant efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, environmental, ethics, and regulatory standards in all reliability initiatives.
  • Provide training and guidance to maintenance and operations team members on reliability best practices and equipment care.
  • Execute the SSAB Change Management Procedure - including safety checklists for new or modified equipment - and collaborate with vendors and engineering teams to ensure designs meet safety, performance, and reliability requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in reliability engineering, providing technical guidance and support across various maintenance and operational functions.

  • Effective communication, collaboration, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies, equipment, and processes.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and project management skills.

Preferred
  • BS in engineering (mechanical, industrial, electrical, or closely related engineering field.)
  • 10 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Technical certification such as vibration analysis, thermography, or NDT.
  • Project Manager certification.
