Job description

Staff Accountant

The Musco Accounting Team has an opening for a Staff Accountant at our Oskaloosa office. This position will research, prepare, and file state sales and use tax returns timely. Assist with administration of the company credit card program, including transaction review, issue resolution, and account maintenance. They will also provide backup support for fixed asset acquisitions and reporting, including capital expenditure tracking and related financial reporting. Essential Criteria:

  • 4 year college degree preferred.
  • 2 to 4 years accounting experience preferred.
  • Previous multi-state sales tax experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work under deadlines.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file state sales and use tax returns for the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and filing requirements.
  • Research and interpret sales and use tax regulations to support compliance and identify applicable tax requirements.
  • Assist with the administration and management of the company credit card program by reviewing transaction coding, approvals, and supporting documentation; maintaining cardholder accounts and system configurations; researching and resolving disputed or questionable transactions with cardholders and the credit card provider; and providing team members with guidance on credit card policies, procedures, and transaction-related questions.
  • Provide backup support for capital expenditures and related reporting for managers, including reviewing and recording capital purchases and maintaining accurate supporting documentation.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and perform reconciliations of payroll-related general ledger accounts to ensure balances are accurate and properly supported.
  • Assist with other accounting-related activities, reconciliations, reporting, and special projects as assigned to support the overall operations of the Accounting and Finance department.
