Job description

Title: Assistant Store Manager
Supervises: Store personnel
Reports To: Store Manager
Status: Non-exempt
Function:
The Assistant Store Manager will assist the Store Manager in managing the operation of the store and in supervision of store personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Assist in creating a pleasant and hospitable work environment and maintain good customer relationships. 
  • Be well-versed in and ensure compliance to accounting, employee, and store policies. 
  • Assist the manager in meeting sales, production, and expense budget goals maintaining a profitable operation. 
  • Ensure that all production is taken from the back room and properly displayed on the sales floor. 
  • Receive applications and participate in interviewing applicants as needed. 
  • Assist in training, direction, and supervision of new personnel along with retraining for all personnel, as necessary. 
  • Assist, as required, in conducting regular evaluations of store personnel, identifying performance strengths and areas for development. 
  • Assist in scheduling of sales associates (and unpaid staff) to ensure full coverage in store at all times. In the absence of the manager, post weekly work schedules for all store personnel. Schedule must include assignment, breaks, vacation, etc. 
  • Assist in completion of payroll information biweekly for all store personnel noting signatures, absenteeism, overtime, etc. Submit to finance department as requested.
  • In the absence of the manager, responsible to order merchandise to ensure that the store is well stocked, and all merchandise is “ragged out” and colorized in accordance with the ARC Command Rag Out Calendar. 
  • Responsible for the proper accounting and banking of cash receipts as per “Safekeeping of Salvation Army Funds” policy. 
  • Ensure that all paperwork and sales reports are filled out completely and forwarded to the finance department daily. 
  • In the absence of the manager, attend manager meetings and keep store personnel informed of new policies and directives. 
  • Ensure that all safety measures are consistent with The Salvation Army policy and Government regulations and hold staff accountable for compliance. Report safety hazards, property damage and personal injuries to Administrator, Store Supervisor, or designee. 
  • May be asked to fill in at other store locations. 
  • This position will support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing beneficiaries with an example of professional conduct and work habits. 
  • Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Administrator. 

Qualifications: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Experience in sales. 
  • Supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Ability to read and interpret simple income and expense reports. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable DMV record. 
  • Good verbal and written communication. 
  • Ability to motivate a team.
