Job description

Position Title: Assistant Manager, Retail
Reports To: General Manager
Department: Operations
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Purpose and Objectives
As a Retail Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in the daily operations of the store, ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers while supporting the General Manager (GM) in achieving business goals. You will lead, train, and develop team members, uphold company values, and drive operational excellence. Your ability to manage sales, inventory, and staff development will directly impact the store's profitability and community impact.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing store team members, including supervisors and stock associates.
  • Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and development plans to enhance team productivity and engagement.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, motivation, and career growth.
  • Lead by example in delivering outstanding customer service and training employees on best practices.
  • Address and resolve customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints professionally and efficiently.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and the local community to drive brand loyalty and repeat business.
  • Support sales targets by optimizing merchandising strategies, creating an engaging shopping environment, and promoting upselling opportunities.
  • Assist in overseeing daily store operations, including opening/closing procedures and maintaining a clean, organized, and visually appealing store.
  • Manage inventory control, product quality, and loss prevention efforts to minimize shrinkage and optimize sales.
  • Ensure accuracy in cash handling, deposits, and financial reporting.
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety regulations while conducting regular audits and compliance checks.
  • Collaborate with HR and Asset Protection on investigations and corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support donation processing by ensuring efficient intake, organization, and donor engagement.
  • Work closely with management to enhance store performance through optimized donation flow and a positive donor and shopping environment.

Skills and Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in a retail management, logistics, or operations role.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with a proven ability to motivate staff.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with POS systems.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Successful completion of background check, motor vehicle check, and drug screen.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
