Position Summary:

Areas of focus will be on custom allocation strategies, strategic asset allocation policy, capital market assumptions, and authoring thought leadership pieces on topics relevant to institutional and high net worth investors. You will work directly with our Client Investment Officers to support our clients and prospects by providing strategic research and advice formulated through complex quantitative analysis.

Northern Trust is a global asset management organization with more than $1.4 Trillion USD in assets under management (as of Dec 31, 2025). The asset management arm of Northern Trust manages portfolios for institutional investors across all asset classes.

We offer a full array of active, passive and quantitative investment management as well as manager of managers, transition management and securities lending solutions for institutional investors. We take a consultative approach to assessing client needs and developing innovative investment solutions. These range from specific investment mandates across the capital market spectrum to investing and managing a client's entire portfolio.

Major Duties:

1. Lead the process of evaluating and developing client communication and documentation as appropriate for clients given risk tolerance and preferences, funding and income needs, and current market environments.

2. Work with the Client Investment Officers and Strategist team to analyze and implement overall portfolio structure, utilizing knowledge of economic, financial market conditions and risks in conjunction with the client's objectives, needs and specifications.

3. Help ensure client satisfaction by working with service teams, coordinating resources to ensure timely delivery of reports, issue resolution, and research inquiries into other investment products offered by Northern Trust and externally.

4. Assist in new product development and marketing. Help to identify new investment ideas or opportunities. Participate in sales and marketing presentations as a subject matter expert and author thought leadership material.

5. Provide senior management with statistical and market data, such as market outlook and technical graphs, for use in creating marketing booklets and other material for Northern Trust clients. Oversee distribution of reports.

6. Display high level of teamwork towards achieving Northern Trust's goals. Maintain a positive influence in the group. Proactively advise Northern Trust partners of issues that may affect client/prospects. Train junior staff members as needed.

7. Work with Legal and Compliance to help ensure compliance with all aspects of the client relationship, investment process, and reporting. As a subject area expert, provides comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to team and partners at a high technical level

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum seven years industry related experience, preferable in the Multi-Asset business
  • Experience in both strategic & tactical asset allocation and risk management
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to provide investment recommendations based on qualitative and quantitative information
  • Experience in relationship management and investment objective discussions with a heavy emphasis on investment counseling
  • Excellent presentation skills with a proven ability to make economic and investment presentations both one on one and in seminar situations
  • Graduate Degree, CFA or CIM designation is required, with CAIA and/or FRM designation preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications (Excel, Powerpoint, Word), experience with macros/VBA/Python a plus. Knowledge of returns-based, positions-based, risk-factor analysis, and optimization software preferred
