Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

Assembly Helpers assist in assembling products by handing tools, parts, and supporting the process, often performing repetitive tasks. Production Workers have a broader role, including operating machinery, quality checks, and more complex tasks. While both roles work in manufacturing environments, Assembly Helpers typically focus on supporting assembly lines, whereas Production Workers handle more varied production duties.

What is an assembly helper?

Assembly Helpers assist in manufacturing or production environments by supporting the assembly of products or components. Their tasks typically include preparing materials, handling tools, following instructions to assemble parts, and inspecting finished products for quality. They work closely with other team members on assembly lines or in workshop settings, ensuring efficiency and safety. Assembly Helpers usually do not require advanced technical skills, but attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions are essential. This role is crucial in keeping production processes running smoothly.

What are some common challenges assembly helpers face during their daily tasks, and how can they effectively overcome them?

Assembly Helpers often encounter challenges such as managing repetitive tasks, maintaining accuracy under time constraints, and adapting to changing assembly line processes. To overcome these, it's important to stay organized, follow safety protocols closely, and communicate proactively with team members and supervisors. Seeking feedback and being open to learning new techniques can also help improve efficiency and reduce the likelihood of errors, making the work environment smoother and more productive.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assembly helper?

To thrive as an Assembly Helper, you need basic mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and sometimes experience with manufacturing or assembly line systems is typically required. Attention to detail, teamwork, and strong communication skills help individuals excel in this role. These skills are crucial to ensure products are accurately assembled, workplace safety is maintained, and production targets are met efficiently.

Job description

About Machina Labs:

Engineering moves at software speed. Manufacturing doesn't. Yet.

Machina Labs is changing that. We build intelligent, software-defined factories that produce complex metal structures directly from digital design. By integrating advanced metal forming, robotics, and automated production inside a flexible factory architecture, we enable customers to move from prototype to production in weeks, not years.

Backed by Lockheed Martin, Toyota, and NVIDIA, we're building the manufacturing infrastructure that defense, aerospace, and advanced mobility programs will run on.

If you want to work on hard problems that matter and see them fly, drive, and defend, this is the place.

Job Description:

Machina Labs is seeking a Machine Production Technician to support the serial production of Roboform, our robotic sheet-metal forming systems.

This hands-on role focuses on executing precision assembly work in a structured production environment, following standardized processes to meet safety, quality, and delivery targets. Production Technicians work closely with production leads and engineering to maintain throughput, traceability, and continuous improvement as production scales.
Key Assembly-Focused Responsibilities:
  • Setup, operate, maintain, and support Machina Labs Roboform cells.
  • Perform secondary finishing operations including trimming, deburring, grinding, and coating.
  • Assemble mechanical frames, sub-assemblies, and complete Roboform cells using released CAD files, assembly drawings, and work instructions.
  • Perform HV/LV wiring, cable routing, and electrical enclosure assembly in compliance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.
  • Install and connect hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including hose fabrication (1/4"-1"), valves, pumps, manifolds, and actuators.
  • Execute structural upfits and modifications (drilling, tapping, cutting, deburring, touch-up finishing).
  • Safely rig, lift, and position heavy components (up to 15 tons) using forklifts, cranes, and approved lifting plans.
  • Execute functional testing, system integration (including Fanuc/Kuka robot setup), and verification steps to ensure cells meet production specifications.
  • Record assembly progress, material usage, and deviations in ERP systems to ensure traceability.
  • Contribute improvement feedback and support cross-training as production scales.
  • Follow standardized processes, contribute feedback on tooling/workflow improvements, and help train team members as production scales.
Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year of fabrication related experience (machining, welding, fitting, etc.)
  • 3+ years of hands-on mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic assembly experience.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and understand geometric tolerances.
  • Experience with hydraulic/pneumatic systems, assembly, troubleshooting, and hose fabrication.
  • Proficiency with common hand and power tools.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including ERP systems and common productivity tools.
  • Effective communication skills in a team-based production environment.
  • Ability to pass background screening requirements (including ITAR compliance).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience working with industrial robotic and automated systems; Fanuc or Kuka platforms preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CAD and PDM systems for accessing and interpreting released design files (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Certified or demonstrated proficiency in IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards for cable and harness assembly.
  • Proven ability to safely rig, lift, and position heavy industrial components using cranes, forklifts, or similar equipment.
  • Experience performing precision machining and fit-up operations, including drilling, reaming, countersinking, and tapping close-tolerance holes.
Safety & Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to safely work assigned shifts, including extended hours and occasional weekends, in support of production schedules.
  • Capability to perform repetitive tasks involving bending, twisting, and fine motor hand movements while maintaining safe work practices.
  • Comfort working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to shop noise, industrial equipment, and common production chemicals (e.g., coolants, solvents, cleaners, paint), using required PPE.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift, carry, and handle materials or equipment up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Ability to safely climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and participate in approved rigging and lifting operations for heavy components.
