Job Description
Assembler I-1st shift
Are you a hands-on problem solver with mechanical aptitude who takes pride in building and testing precision pump systems? Then join us in our mission to pioneer smarter solutions for moving and transforming water, reducing energy consumption, and enhancing quality of life for people.
As our new Assembler I, you will be assembling, testing, and repairing horizontal and vertical centrifugal pumps used in critical fire protection, industrial, and municipal water applications at our Peerless Pump Company facility in Indianapolis. You'll be part of a diverse, supportive and inclusive culture, that celebrates our differences and puts people first by fostering growth, well-being, and a sense of belonging.
What you will be doing
As a key part of the Standard/Medium Assembly team, you'll create impact by Building and testing the reliable pump systems that protect communities and power essential infrastructure around the world..
Your main responsibilities include:
• Assemble, disassemble, align, adjust, and repair horizontal and standard vertical centrifugal pumps using engineering drawings and schematics
• Perform welding, acetylene cutting, drilling, tapping, honing, reaming, and other precision machining operations required for pump mounting and repair
• Set up and execute hydraulic pressure tests and performance run tests on pumps and pumping systems, accurately recording all results
• Make mechanical and electrical connections (up to 480-3 phase) and mount pumps and accessories to base plates
• Inspect components prior to assembly for suitability of use and problem-solve technical issues to complete jobs
• Participate in Kaizen events, contribute improvement proposals, and cross-train with team members
What makes you a great fit
Above all, you are a mechanically skilled professional who can read engineering drawings, apply mathematics to precision assembly work, and thrive in a hands-on manufacturing environment where quality and teamwork drive results. We would also imagine that you have:
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Mechanical aptitude with ability to read and apply mathematics from engineering drawings and schematics
• Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals and ability to communicate effectively in English
• Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a non-climate-controlled factory environment; flexibility with shift changes (5x8 or 4x10 schedules) and frequent overtime
It is a plus if you also:
• Experience with vertical and/or horizontal pump assembly, or veterans with MOS experience maintaining precision mechanical systems
• Vocational training or certification in welding (MIG), electrical systems (to 480-3 phase), blueprint reading, or precision measuring instruments
• Forklift license and experience with lifting equipment including crane lift rigging
Why you will love working here
We care! Day to day, you can look forward to:
• A working environment built around your needs, with flexible hours, home working opportunities and parental support.
• Annual bonuses, health insurance and a strong focus on well-being activities.
• Three days' additional paid leave for volunteering in your community.
• Access to on-demand training and learning sessions and carefully structured programmes to pursue personal and professional development opportunities.
We are inclusive! Celebrating and valuing our differences helps us see possibilities where others can't. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from all abilities, experiences, and backgrounds.
