Position Summary

Illumina is seeking a Director, Product Management, Integrated Clinical Solutions to define and drive cohesive product strategy and lifecycle management for an integrated clinical solution within the Clinical Solutions portfolio. This senior product management leader will set the vision and evolve the strategy, roadmap, and business plan for a complex offering spanning instrumentation, software, and assay content, with a focus on delivering a compelling, end-to-end solution to decentralized clinical customers.

This individual will operate as a player/coachโ€”leading and developing a team of product managers while directly contributing to key strategic initiatives, portfolio prioritization, and cross-functional stakeholder management. The role requires strong customer orientation, systems thinking, and the ability to drive alignment and tradeoff decisions for a multi-component solution in a matrixed environment.

Responsibilities Product Strategy and Business Planning
  • Represents the integrated solution strategy to senior leadership, providing the connective narrative that links component-level roadmaps into an end-to-end plan

  • Defines and maintains a cohesive product strategy, roadmap, and business plan for an integrated clinical solution spanning instrumentation, software, and assay content

  • Translates customer insights, market dynamics, and competitive intelligence into clear product requirements and strategic priorities

  • Determines long-range roadmap direction based on market needs, product gaps, opportunities, and emerging trends

  • Drives the assay/content portfolio strategy as part of the broader solution roadmap

  • Develops business cases, value propositions, and proposals to support prioritization of new features, capabilities, and investments

  • Partners with finance, strategy, and senior leadership to align portfolio investments with broader business objectives

Product Lifecycle Management
  • Serves as the senior product management leader and customer advocate across the full development lifecycleโ€”from concept through launch and sustaining

  • Drives product definition, market requirements, and feature prioritization across an integrated solution spanning instrumentation, software, and workflow components

  • Guides tradeoff decisions to ensure a cohesive, scalable, and differentiated solution

  • Defines product positioning by customer segment in partnership with platform, assay, and software product teams

  • Actively tracks and translates product performance metrics, voice of customer, and competitive activity to inform continuous improvement and roadmap evolution

  • Drives product management input into pricing strategy, business modeling, and forecasting

Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Partners closely with R&D, platforms, assay development, software, regulatory, quality, systems integration, and operations to define requirements and align on priorities

  • Collaborates with marketing, medical affairs, and regional teams to support product strategy alignment and launch readiness

  • Influences stakeholders across the organization at all levels to align on product direction, priorities, and execution plans

  • Drives product, service, and workflow inputs to broader platform, software, and assay technical roadmaps

  • Serves as a key subject matter expert for the integrated clinical solution, representing the integrated product vision to senior leadership and external stakeholders

Team Leadership (Player/Coach)
  • Builds, leads, and develops a team of product managers; provides direction, day-to-day prioritization, mentoring, and career development support

  • Acts as a hands-on contributor by directly owning the most strategic, cross-cutting initiatives and product decisions

  • Sets the product management operating model, prioritization framework, and decision making cadence that drive alignment across system components and with cross-functional partners

Customer and Market Engagement
  • Conducts market research, customer interviews, voiceโ€‘ofโ€‘customer studies, and competitive analysis to inform product direction

  • Builds and maintains relationships with key customers, KOLs, and partners to inform product strategy and roadmap decisions

  • Incorporates customer insights into product requirements, positioning, and tradeoff decisions

Requirements
  • Typically requires a Bachelorโ€™s degree and a minimum of 18 years of related experience, with 10+ years of Management experience; or 15 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 12 years of experience. In addition, candidates should have 8+ years of product management experience.
  • BS or BA in life sciences, molecular biology, engineering, genomics, or related field; advanced degree and/or MBA preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading product strategy and execution for complex, multi-component products or systems
  • Experience developing, launching, and sustaining products in IVD environments
  • Strong understanding of clinical customers and laboratory workflows
  • Demonstrated success managing and developing high-performing teams
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence across the organization at all levels, including senior leadership
  • Exceptional time and project management skills with the ability to independently prioritize competing demands
  • Strong written, verbal, and executive presentation skills
  • Able to thrive in a fastโ€‘paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Able to travel approximately 25% on average
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with integrated solutions that combine instrumentation, software, and assay/content portfolios

  • Experience with nextโ€‘generation sequencing or molecular diagnostics technologies

Additional Information

The estimated base salary range for the Director, Product Management, Integrated Clinical Solutions role based in the United States of America is: $187,400 - $281,000. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. The range reflects longโ€‘term growth in the role; therefore, most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
