Job description

Under the general direction of the Shareholder Applications Manager and Stock Director, this position is responsible for maintaining the ASRC Stock Application; including reconciliation processes, performing data analysis, ensuring backups are run, assisting users with daily operations, providing data for system developers, generating reports for users, and correcting and validating data.  The accounting technician will aid with financial activities, election cycles, shareholder enrollments, and shareholder payments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  1. Under the management of the Shareholder Applications Manager, the Stock Application Accounting Technician will learn to maintain accounting related data, produce financial related information, and assist Stock Department users with daily operations.

  2. The Stock Application Accounting Technician will become familiar with the processes for dividend issuance and payment, and related tax reporting requirements.

  3. With oversight from the Applications Manager, the individual will track outstanding payments, levies, and responses to shareholder payment inquiries.  

  4. Will assist in monthly and annual reconciliation processes.

  5. Maintain relationships with banks, conservators and custodians.

  6. Research Stock dividends.  Issue stop payments and reissue dividends upon verification, reconciliation of dividend accounts.

  7. Maintain the weekly check runs.

  8. Will assist in processes and maintain all shareholder records for heirship.

  9. Provides data analysis and presentation support for non-standard data inquiries.

  10. Ensures the integrity of the ASRC Stock System and associated financial applications that support dividend payments.

  11. Assists in the development of support materials for process documentation and training.

  12. At times, may be asked to assist the Audit, Legal, and Executive departments for incident response regarding shareholder data and payments.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  1. Associate's degree or equivalent or three to five years related accounting experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and employees in a team-oriented environment.

  3. Familiarity with business applications, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Visio.

  4. Familiarity with accounting principles.

  5. A strong working knowledge of ANCSA Stock, databases, and accounting systems is preferred.

  6. Professional level of confidentiality in handling shareholder information.

  7. The ability to speak and understand the Inupiat language is important and preferred.
