What is an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)?

ASQ CQE professionals are Certified Quality Engineers who have been credentialed by the American Society for Quality (ASQ). They specialize in the principles and practices of product and service quality evaluation and control. A CQE is skilled in analyzing quality problems and managing quality assurance systems, and is often responsible for ensuring that products meet customer expectations and regulatory standards. Earning the CQE certification demonstrates expertise in quality engineering and can lead to career advancement in manufacturing, engineering, and quality management fields.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)?

To thrive as an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), you need a solid understanding of quality engineering principles, statistical analysis, and process improvement, typically backed by a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and ASQ CQE certification. Familiarity with quality management systems (like ISO 9001), statistical software (such as Minitab), and root cause analysis tools is essential. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help set outstanding CQEs apart. These competencies ensure product and process excellence, compliance with standards, and ongoing organizational improvement.

What challenges do ASQ Certified Quality Engineers (CQEs) face in a manufacturing environment?

ASQ Certified Quality Engineers often face challenges such as ensuring consistent product quality across production runs, managing process improvements within tight deadlines, and effectively communicating quality standards to cross-functional teams. Job description

We are hiring a Principal Corporate Quality Engineer to advance our enterprise Quality Management System across a global network of manufacturing and repair sites. In this deployable, strategic role, you'll standardize quality processes, lead complex investigations, strengthen supplier quality, support PMA Continued Operational Safety (COS), and serve as our enterprise eQMS administrator and SME.

What You'll Do
  • Drive standardization and continuous improvement of quality systems, processes, and tools across manufacturing, repair, and PMA operations.
  • Deploy to sites facing capacity constraints, customer escalations, audits, or business-critical projects to stabilize performance and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Lead complex investigations and RCCA/CAPA using structured problem-solving (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, FTA, statistical methods); coach site teams on investigation discipline.
  • Support PMA COS activities—partnering with Airworthiness, Engineering, and Site Quality on field events, risk assessments, and lessons learned deployment.

  • Own eQMS implementation, configuration, governance, workflows, and network adoption.
  • Support internal, supplier, customer, and regulatory audits.

  • 8+ years in aerospace quality, manufacturing/repair station quality, quality systems, or supplier quality.
  • Strong working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, Nadcap, FAA Part 145, and FAA Part 21 PMA.
  • Proven track record leading investigations, RCCA/CAPA, audits, and cross-site quality projects.
  • Ability to influence results across sites without direct authority.
  • Willingness to travel extensively up to 75% globally (must have active passport or the ability to obtain)
Preferred Qualifications
  • PMA Continued Operational Safety (COS) program experience.
  • Enterprise eQMS deployment and administration experience.
  • Background across both aerospace manufacturing and repair/MRO.
  • ASQ CQE, CQA, CMQ/OE, Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or Lead Auditor certification.
