Job description

Job Description:

  • Unload tools from truck and unroll roofing material.
  • Ensure there is enough material for entire roof.
  • Lift tools onto roof using pulleys or ladder.
  • Clear debris from roof.
  • Attend and/or conduct daily safety checklist.
  • Install roofing material.
  • Cover roof with roofing felt, asphalt strips, or other materials.
  • Locate and repair cracked tiles (as necessary).
  • Fill in missing tiles (as necessary).
  • Clear out gutters and drains (as necessary).
  • Locate and fix leaks (as necessary).
  • Repair damage caused from storms and high winds (as necessary).
  • Follow all safety rules, policies and procedures.  Make sure everyone you are working with also follows all safety rules, policies and procedures.

Roofing work can be hot and physically demanding. It involves heavy lifting, as well as climbing, bending, and kneeling. Roofers work outdoors in all types of weather, particularly when making repairs.

Important Qualities:

Balance. Roofing is often done on steep slopes at significant heights. Because of this, workers should have excellent balance to avoid falling.

Physical stamina. Roofers must have endurance to perform strenuous duties throughout the day. They may spend hours on their feet, bending and stooping—often in hot temperatures—with few breaks.
