Job description

Martin Marietta Minnesota District asphalt operations are currently looking for versatile Heavy Equipment Operators to join the team. This position is responsible for operating mobile equipment, performing mechanical work, and other duties associated with the safe and efficient operation of equipment used to produce hot mix asphalt. This position will include travel within the district.

This is a full-time seasonal union position, membership in Local 49 Operating Engineers is mandatory.

Essential Functions

  • Inspect, operate, and maintain plant and associated production equipment
  • Inspect, operate, and maintain mobile equipment including skid steer, front-end loader, pit truck, water truck, etc.
  • Tools, mechanical aptitude, and welding experience preferred.
  • Previous experience operating mobile construction equipment is desired.

Work Environment

This position operates 100% of the time in an asphalt plant environment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time seasonal position that regularly requires long hours and weekend work. The ideal candidate would be traveling to all 10 Minnesota District asphalt plants as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High-school diploma or equivalent per union requirements
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • 1 + year related experience

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders up to 80+ feet
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 80+ feet
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
