At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in San Valley, CA! If you're committed to making a difference in the lives of students with special needs and helping them achieve academic success, we want to hear from you!

About the Role: We are seeking a patient, ASL-fluent Special Education tutor to work one-on-one with a student who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) and has intellectual disabilities. The student is non-verbal but communicates using approximately 60 signs and short 1-2 word phrases.

The student thrives with consistency, structure, and strong one-on-one relationships, so building trust and maintaining a predictable routine will be key to supporting their learning and progress.

Details:

  • Location: Sun Valley, CA 91352
  • Schedule:
    • Tuesday (availability to be discussed with tutor)
    • Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Hours: 1-1.5 hours per session, approximately 2-3 hours per week
  • Subjects: English and Math

Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide individualized tutoring in English and Math aligned with the student's IEP goals.
    • Support foundational learning goals such as alphabet identification, counting to 10, and increasing independent signing.
    • Use visual supports, gestures, and ASL communication to facilitate understanding.
    • Create a calm, structured learning environment that respects the student's need for routine.
    • Support engagement through interactive and hands-on learning activities.
    • Manage occasional agitation with patience, consistency, and supportive redirection.
  • Student Profile:
The student wears hearing aids and responds best to clear visual instructions and consistent routines. Because the student can be sensitive to change, sessions should prioritize predictability, patience, and trust-building.

Qualifications:

    • Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
    • Experience working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) students
    • Extensive hands-on Special Education experience, particularly with students who have intellectual or developmental disabilities
    • Patient, calm, and skilled at building trusting relationships with students who rely on structured routines
    • Ability to use visual cues and adaptive teaching strategies
  • Additional Information:
    • Format: In-person tutoring
    • Location: Totally Kids Sun Valley
    • Full IEP will be provided upon tutor pairing to support effective planning and instruction.
