Asian Developer information

What is an Asian developer?

Asian Developers are software developers who originate from or are based in Asian countries, such as China, India, Japan, South Korea, and others. They work in various areas of software development, including web, mobile, and enterprise applications. Asian Developers contribute significantly to the global tech industry, often known for their strong technical skills and adaptability. They may work for local companies, international firms, or as freelancers, and many participate in remote and distributed teams.

What are some common challenges Asian developers may face when collaborating on international teams?

Asian Developers working on international teams may encounter challenges such as language barriers, differences in communication styles, and varying expectations regarding work hours due to time zone differences. Building effective cross-cultural communication skills is essential for smooth collaboration. Many organizations offer training and support to help bridge these gaps and foster a more inclusive team environment, which not only benefits project outcomes but also provides valuable professional growth opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Developer, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages (such as Java, Python, or JavaScript), version control systems like Git, and modern development frameworks is essential. Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies are vital for creating efficient, maintainable software solutions and collaborating effectively within technical teams.

What is the difference between Asian Developer vs Web Developer?

AspectAsian DeveloperWeb Developer
CredentialsTypically holds degrees or certifications in software engineering, computer science, or related fieldsOften has similar degrees or certifications, with additional focus on web technologies
Work EnvironmentWorks in tech companies, outsourcing firms, or freelance projects, often in office or remote settingsWorks mainly on website and application development, in office or remote environments
Industry UsageCommonly employed in software development, outsourcing, and IT services across Asia and globallyPrimarily in digital, marketing, and tech industries worldwide

Asian Developers and Web Developers share many credentials and work environments, but Asian Developers often refer to developers based in Asia or working on outsourcing projects, while Web Developers focus specifically on website and web application creation. Both roles are integral to the tech industry, with overlapping skills but different regional and project focuses.

Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Senior Engineer, Advanced Structural Applications is responsible for providing structural engineering analysis, technical evaluations, and engineering support for customer-specific applications across BAC's global business. The role applies established structural engineering principles, company standards, and engineering judgment to evaluate customer-specific requirements, ensure structural integrity, and provide timely engineering support for customer commitments.

The position requires a strong background in structural engineering with experience in structural analysis, steel and cold-formed steel design, and applicable structural design codes and standards. The Senior Engineer independently performs engineering calculations, develops structural engineering recommendations, and collaborates with Global Applications, Regional Engineering, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to deliver practical engineering solutions.

The work is performed with limited supervision under the general direction of the Chief Engineer, Advanced Structural Applications or other technical leadership as appropriate. The Senior Engineer is expected to independently resolve the majority of structural application requests while appropriately escalating novel, precedent-setting, or high-risk engineering issues.

NATURE & SCOPE

Reports to the Chief Engineer, Advanced Structural Applications.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform structural engineering analyses and evaluations for customer-specific applications involving wind, seismic, transportation, rigging, installation, anchorage, operational loading, and other site-specific structural conditions.
  • Evaluate routine and moderately complex customer-specific structural application requests using established engineering methods, company standards, and applicable structural design codes and standards.
  • Prepare structural calculations, analytical models, engineering evaluations, technical recommendations, and supporting documentation to support customer commitments and engineering decisions.
  • Provide structural engineering support to Regional Applications and Engineering, Sales, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to resolve customer-specific engineering issues.
  • Interpret and apply applicable structural design codes/standards, regulatory requirements, and BAC engineering standards to ensure safe, practical, and compliant engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to ensure structural engineering solutions for customer-specific applications remain consistent with product capabilities, manufacturing requirements, and BAC engineering standards.
  • Support engineering validation activities, including prototype testing, structural qualification, and field investigations, by providing structural engineering analysis, interpretation of test results, and technical recommendations, as required.
  • Support the continuous improvement of structural engineering methods, calculation tools, design guidance, and engineering processes by identifying recurring application requests and opportunities for standardization, improving engineering efficiency, consistency, and response time.
  • Contribute to a work environment that promotes technical excellence, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer focus.
  • Adhere to the Company's Code of Conduct and Business Ethics standards.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Required Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and structural behavior.
  • Ability to independently evaluate customer-specific engineering problems and develop practical structural solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and engineering judgment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering assignments and priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and global engineering teams.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Advanced degree preferred.

Years of Experience:

  • Typically 5–10 years of structural or mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience in product engineering, applications engineering, industrial equipment, or related engineering fields preferred.
  • Global experience preferred.

Technical Expertise:

  • Experience with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, ANSYS, or equivalent finite element analysis software.
  • Experience with engineering calculation software such as Mathcad.

Working knowledge of:

  • ASCE 7
  • AISC 360
  • AISI S100
  • Structural steel and cold-formed steel design
  • Wind and seismic analysis
  • Structural testing and validation
  • Knowledge of international structural design standards and customer application engineering is desirable.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Travel as needed to global engineering centers in Europe and Asia, and occasionally as needed to regional manufacturing facilities, technical conferences, and professional association meetings, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working hours are the standard BAC 40 hours per week (8:30am-5:00pm with flexible start/finish times allowed).
  • Travel, both domestically and internationally, can be up to 15% of the time.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours required, although the work can often be done from home with the use of a portable computer and a VPN connection.
  • Primarily sedentary activity in the office will be experienced; however, periodic travel to BAC manufacturing facilities with mechanical assembly (medium work) and lifting being required.
  • Must have close visual acuity to work with computer systems and virtual models
  • Will typically be subjected to only indoor conditions; however, on occasional trips to BAC manufacturing facilities and test laboratories the individual may experience heat, cold, humidity, and noise.

BAC Hiring Compensation Range $90,000-$154,100
