GM Master Technician Job Description

Aย GM Master Technician is a highly skilled automotive professional who specializes in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining General Motors (GM) vehicles to GMโ€™s exact standards. This role requires extensive training, certification, and hands-on experience, and is often a career milestone in GMโ€™s Certified Service Technician path.

Role Overview

GM Master Technicians are responsible for:

  • Performingย advanced diagnosticsย and repairs on complex GM vehicles, including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, steering, and HVAC.

  • Ensuring repairs meetย GMโ€™s quality and safety standards using the latest diagnostic tools and technology.

  • Maintaining and servicingย engine performance, electrical/electronics, and drivetrain systemsย GM Service Technical College.

  • Mentoring and trainingย junior technicians to improve shop performance and customer satisfaction.

Certification & Training
  • Achieved throughย GM Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP)ย or GM Service Technical College (STC) training.

  • Requires completingย Master Technician Certification (MTC)ย in select mechanical or body areas, often alongside ASE certificationsย GM Service Technical College.

  • Must maintainย 100% Service Technical Standards (STS)ย annually to retain certificationย GM Service Technical College.
